Hush Puppies

Serve this tasty side dish from America's South with your favorite fried fish or seafood.
Other: Ingredients:
Time:
15 minutes
Difficulty:
Easy
Serving Size:
Yield: 1 dozen
1 Egg, lightly beaten
1 cup Milk
2 Tablespoons Green onions, minced
1 cup Cornmeal, white
1/2 cup Flour
3/4 teaspoon Baking powder
1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
Oil for deep-frying
Preparation:
Preheat the oil to 375F.
Instructions:
Mix together the egg, milk, and green onion. In a separate bowl, blend together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir the dry mixture into the egg mixture. Drop spoonfuls (about 1 1/2 Tablespoons each) into the hot oil. Cook for about 3 minutes (or until brown). Drain on paper towels. Serve warm.

I have never actually had hush puppies. I should probably find some at a restaurant here in New York City before trying them on my own, for comparison.

I have not eaten hush puppies since I ate them in Florida years ago. Loved them then and haven't thought about til I saw the recipe. I'm going to try it. It doesn't look that difficult. Thanks. Peter Wilensky,Orange County,CA.

I think I saw Paula Deen & Aaron McCargo Jr. make these also.

This is not a dog. LOL I thought it at first. I wanted to try this even before. Thanks for the recipe. I never thought I could have this recipe till I got here.
