DATE AND NUT BREAD

1 cup dates, cut fine
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter (melted)
1 cup boiling water
1 egg, well beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 Tablespoon vanilla

Mix dates, sugar, butter, and water. Let cool. Stir in other
ingredients. Bake about 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Personally, I used walnuts which I crushed with a mallet in a Ziploc bag. Also, you can
add a Tablespoon of rum in place of the vanilla, if you prefer.
