Brownie Gift Jar
From: Holiday Crafting & Baking with Kids by Jessica Strand - Pg 45

32 oz wide-mouth glass canning jar, such as Ball Brand
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Sheet of paper
3/4 cup good-quality cocoa powder, unsweetened
Paper towel
2/3 cup white sugar
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup mint chocolate chips
1/2 cup walnut pieces

Make certain that the jar is clean and dry. Combine the flour with the salt and baking powder and place the mixture in the bottom of a jar.

Form the sheet of paper into a cone and use it as a funnel as you slowly add the cocoa powder. Shake it gently so it settles well, and then wipe any
residual powder from the sides of the jar with a paper towel before moving on.

Add the white sugar to the jar and then the brown sugar, shaking or packing each into a level layer. Finally add the mint chocolate chips and walnuts.
Close the lid firmly to make a tight seal.

The baking directions should be attached to the jar either by a sticker or a card attached by a ribbon. They are:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (for gas ovens, 4)
2. Grease a 9-inch square pan.
3. Melt and cool 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
4. Stir in 2 lightly beaten eggs.
5. Gently mix in the contents of the jar until just combined.
6. Spread in prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes (slightly less if you like them gooey).
7. Enjoy with a cool glass of milk or hot mint cocoa!

Author note: For cleaner lines between ingredients, make sure to pack each layer down after adding each ingredient, tapping the jar on a counter and
using the back of a spoon, if necessary.
