True Confessions - Ping Jorge
Jorge, remember that 1/2 pint of pickled sunchokes you sent me a year
ago? I just cracked them today. How much do you want for more of them?
Holy cow, George, those are fanfrickin'tastic!

You wait a whole year and then brag on me pickles? Of course I will send
you more, I've still got your street address somewhere around here. <G>
Incidentally, the sunchokes are producing more roots as I write this,
the stalks are about ready to bloom. I think the recipe came out of one
of the books on pickling I have, probably have it earmarked.
Is your area part of the great American drought? We're still getting
lots of rain here. Picked, chopped, and froze two bun trays of sweet
chiles yesterday. Picked the last of the decent chard and had it for
dinner along with a smoked chuck roast that I coated with rub and then
put in the smoker. We are getting where we prefer chuck roast, either
smoked or roasted, over brisket. Much more tender, cheaper at the
market, and turns out great. Opened a jar of butter beans I put up
earlier this year just to see how they turned out. The butter beans were
also delicious, I had put some onion, garlic, and a few herbs in the mix
so came out very good.
Getting ready to paint the ceiling in the garage before the heat of the
day strikes us, average afternoon temps here are in the mid-to-high
nineties.
