Re: people
I haven't seen anything the last couple of days...well, except for that guy
selling hand bags....
I made a double batch of chilli today (not the sauce and not the kind George
makes - mine is 'Canadianized' with ground beef and a bunch o beans and
tomatoes, peppers and onions), froze 5 large canning jars of it! Pretty
much the only preserving I can do in February, where the temp hits -23C,
BEFORE the wind chill.....

Me either except a tad of spam. All of the newsgroups seem really slow
right now. At least the ones I go to. My provider was down for almost a
day. I use Motzarella. So I never know if it's them or what. But since
you don't see any either...

Some of us still here, tending to sunburn on noses incurred whilst tending
the garden.

I've just been busy...
My job was causing a bit of a headache but, a little whining and a
little time off in the next two weeks should help to remedy the
situation...

Thanks to everone for answers showing that we are still a viable
newsgroup, just busy or nothing to say.

Up here in the HemiNorth, there's not much preserving going on
anyway.... I wouldn't expect this group to be that busy for a few weeks yet.

I've been intending to can some soups -- split pea and maybe minestrone.
But my mom is moving from California back to Illinois to go into assisted
living, and between handling the arrangements for her new home, coordinating
with my sibs for the big move, and arranging to go to Carlsbad to help her
pack and to bring her back here, I've been too busy. And that's without
even considering the Super Bowl party we held which had 35 guests.

The "Ignore" function delivers blessed relief from that. ;-)

At the other extreme, down here in somewhat overly-sunny Australia
we've had a fortnight of >35C, and the last few days were >40C.
Thankfully the forecast is for a bit more sensible temperatures for
the rest of the week (in the 20-30C range).
I picked 30kg of roadside apples yesterday, and started bottling them
last night. They were quite warm to touch, they must have been almost
cooking on the tree!

I saw a news blurb today about your high temps and the fires - that's bad!
Hopefully the change in temp will aid in putting out those fires. I
couldn't stand that heat!

The worst fires are about 350km to the south-east of me. The death
toll is about 200 so far, but they're still finding people's bodies in
the wreckage of their houses, in their burnt-out cars (where they were
overtaken by the fire front whilst trying to escape), etc. It's far
and away the worst bushfires Australia has ever seen.
I'm booking in to make an extra blood donation next week, they need
more plasma for all the burn victims they're treating. :-(
