Thread: Whew! Finally!!

    Default Whew! Finally!!

I got locked out of my normal Gmail account this AM, for no apparent
reason! They say "We've detected unusual activity on your account."
and want me to jump through a bunch of hoops to verify my account.
First thing it tried to do is send a "verification code" to my mobile
phone, but I only have a land line phone so that does me no good at
    all.

Luckily I have this "other" Gmail account.

    :-)

That's one way of avoiding killfiles......... multiple Gmail accounts.

A good friend would drive 30 miles at 2:00 am to bail you out of jail.
A best friend, however, would be sitting in the cell next to you saying
    "Man, that was f******n Awesome!"

That is not why I did it.

Thanks for the datapoint. The only provider who has ever locked
me out of any account is Facebook. I have had no problem with
Yahoo Mail, Speedymail (whom I highly recommend), or several
    traditional ISP's.

that mail account probably got hacked and someone was using for spam,
that's usually why you get that kind of notice.

I'd go in and delete that account if i were you.

I feel your pain, John! The credit card I use for online purchases
etc was compromised last week, so Visa canceled it and a new one is in
the mail. Today was my renewal date with APN and they didn't have a
valid card to charge; so I'm usenet server free at the moment and
resorting to Google. Ugh! I see a lot of spam that I'll be
reporting. I wonder if they remove it or not?

I thought Visa was no more? Funny about that. I saw one of those
infomercial things (not the half hour long ones - wouldn't sit through
that!) and they were throwing in $100 worth of Visa prepaid cards as an
incentive to purchase the garbage they were pushing. I wonder how many
people fell for it, because I don't think they can use them.

If I could get into it, maybe.

Anyone else getting a GoogleGroups validation code with each post? I
have one right now. Let's see if I can read and reproduce it...

Sounds like you may not have up to date virus/malware software. I
used Google Groups quite a few times today and never got that, so best
check out what's happening. Run your computer past Panda and see if
    it turns up anything. http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan/index/
It will prompt you will download "ActiveScan". Do not be afraid
Grasshopper. Deleting that account, or at least reporting it,
    might be in order.

Huh? VISA is alive and well, and I have seen nothing that says their
gift cards are going away. OTOH, the credit card companies keep
trying to keep ahead of legislation....

I haven't heard anything about that and I don't see anything
about it. Even if it did happen, Visa cards wouldn't just go away.

Google (Gmail) has locked me out of it, but it still replies when
emailed to. I tested it and for back a reply almost instantly. Looked
like an email from me and contained only:

"alright, here is the link to the article (Russian .ru website of

My visa bank card was replaced by Mastercard because of the change. At
