The British have been eating sardines on toast for a long time. Of
course, they put many other things on toast that horrify Americans:
canned spaghetti (or spaghettios!). I have only once seen someone bring
a spaghetti sandwich for lunch and he was a New Zealander.

When I was a kid my mother often gave us pork and beans on toast for lunch.

But aside form that, rub a slice of toast with a cut clove of garlic
then butter the slice will.

Very good on sour dough or even better IMO on white rye.

Im quite fond of a piece of toast covered with any particular leftover
sauce.

I often make enough hollandaise so i will have leftovers the next day to
use on a slice of buttered toast toped with a poached egg and the
hollandaise sauce.

Yep, that's what i meant to imply, one time i made some for asparagus
and had enough left over, accidentally, unplanned, left over and added
it to my toast and poached egg the next day.

I so enjoyed it that, while i don't make a lot of hollandaise, usually
only when we have asparagus, but when i do i make an extra large amount
just as an indulgence. It is excellent on cottage fries, peeled & cut
up previously baked potatoes tossed in melted butter, seasoned, herbed &
oven warmed up until lightly browned and serve with the hollandaise.

I'd take an egg and hollandaise on buttered toast over the same on an
English muffin anytime.

Beans? Hmm. I gues speanuts are beans.

Truthfully, I don't eat toast except if it's broiled with garlic and
butter. Somertimes an english muffin, but never non-garlic toast.

Sounds a bit like brushetta.

Thick, crusty slices of bread toasted on a grill.

Rub garlic over one side when done.

Place very thinly sliced tomatoes on each slice.

Drizzle good olive oil on the tomatoes and top with teeth-sparking
kosher salt.

That's a recipe that I learned decades ago. There are many more, I
think.

That this would come up on a day I was housebound babysitting (I don't have
an apartment key to take the rugrats outside) and watching the People's
Court. Case involved payment for medical marijuana.....seems the defendant
made 'canni-butter' out of it and ate it on toast as she couldn't tolerate
the smoke. Now THAT is something unusual to put on toast!
