vincent and mary price's cookbook(s)
i seem to recall the price's books mentioned here, and googling for them,
but the price was stratospheric.
well, abe's books sends me e-mails, and they have some copies that are
merely pretty expensive:

I consider A Treasury of Great Recipes one of the most useful and valuable
cookbooks that I own. The recipes themselves are superb, very well written
and the commentaries surrounding them are priceless. If you do not yet have
a copy of this book, it is well worth the under-$40 prices quoted at Abebooks.

My dad bought my mother A Treasury of Great Recipes when it was first
published, which I have now inherited. I really love that cookbook.
I also have a copy of Peg Bracken's original I Hate to Cook book. It's
really quite funny, and I've found a few useful items in it.

What, exactly, was it he was supposed to remember? That you posted it?
That it was posted in 2002? That he replied to the post in 2002? Do
you remember every thread you participated in? I only know one guy who
could do that.

I have _The Appendix to the I Hate to Cook Book_ , _The Compleat I
Hate to Cook Book_, and _The I Hate to Housekeep Book_. I don't
think I have ever cooked from them, but I am influenced by her advice
and attitude. They are fun just to pick up and flip through. I love
the Hilary Knight illustrations. The housekeeping book is the most
dated. I wish I could have read her magazine articles.

I have two copies--to replace my missing copy. After I move and
get organized... (if that is obvious to you), give me a ping.

Well, my first offer (after I move) was to Blake. Maybe he'll get
multiple offers though. It is possible that if my missing books
actually are not gone forever that I have three copies of it.

How did you end up with three copies of said cookbook? I know you're one
of rfc's 'cookbook collectors' but do you have so many cookbooks that
you can't remember which ones you already have, or do people gift them
to you? Or do you just like having three copies? Or what?

I had one from the 60s, which seems to have disappeared when it
was supposed to be safe in storage (= no. 1). I got no. 2 at a
yard sale, but it is not in optimal condition. No. 3 was also
from some sort of sale, in better condition. So, I either have
one or two extras.
Now, in addition to getting books for my own collection, I try to
pick up copies of books that I like, and which I observe that
people might like, so I can give away copies--or maybe, someday,
even get into selling.

Yeah, I guess they would make nice gifts. Good luck if you decide to

I need that luck. My love of cookbooks does not automatically
translate into an even semi-viable business. Also, I have tried
not to accrue so much in the recent past because I have such a
mess here--and am even more acutely aware of the fact that all of
these books need to be moved. Ugh.
BUT I did, against my better judgment, go to a "Paper Show on
Sunday. I did not take the precautions that my rational self
advised, and I got a lot of books, even though I was limiting
myself to items that were at least pre 1910 and preferably
pre-1900. Bad, bad, bad. (These are all for myself/eventual
donation and not for sale.)
