Thread: Vanilla ice cream toppings (??)

  1. #1
    Sky Guest

Default Vanilla ice cream toppings (??)

Scenario = vanilla ice cream only. On hand are various toppings, etc.
Tonight, it's not easy to decide between raspberry syrup and toasted
almonds, or perhaps a bit of maple syrup with toasted pecans! (Or is
that the other way around?) Then again, there's cocoa powder & coffee
    crystals ......!!!

Sometimes it's difficult to make decisions, and the decision is best
left undone?? As in, abstain??! But then, what fun is that? Then that
same side of the coin is no caloric intake! No fun there either, eh!

Goat caramel is the ideal vanilla ice-cream topping. You can
    find it at Mexican stores.

I realize this does not help you right now.

Rally good vanilla ice cream needs no toppings. I'd rather just enjoy the
    pure vanilla flavor.

    I agree with Ed actually.

Chocolate would detract from a really good Vanilla ice cream.

My preference for vanilla is to add a little lemon sorbet and some mixed
    frozen berries

    1 t Baileys Irish Cream
    1 t Kahlua

Laddled over top of each serving, no matter the size.

On the dish I had last night, I had a small drizzle of chocolate syrup and a
    sprinkling of blistered peanuts.

Blistered peanuts are a Trader Joe's thing; they are blistered and rendered
extra crunchy by the old-fashioned manner in which the skins are removed
from the nuts prior to roasting.

I generally eat vanilla ice cream plain, but sometimes I top it
with defrosted, mushed up red raspberries. The tartness of
the berries complements the sweetness of the ice cream
    nicely.

I disagree that liquid smoke has legit uses as well. I consume way
more than my share of smoke flavor, but I'd far rather do w/o
smokiness than use the bottled stuff. The Colgin brand is downright
    nasty.

I know what instant coffee is like. Unfortunately, I've already had
that adventure. A Wendy's Double Stack has uses too, like on my way
home from work last night, bone tired, and queasy from not eating.
That doesn't mean it's something I'd choose if I had the means to just
as easily have something better. Polluting ice cream with a substance
only suitable as a caffeine delivery vehicle is not on my do list.

    Sky,

NOT homemade toppings but at the Dairy Queen, Carvel, etc...

We'd get vanilla soft ice cream cones that got upsidedown dipped into that
chocolate sauce that would immediately harden to a delicious chocolate
    crisp...

    If we were good!

Basically an annual event, if at all. <vbg>

Hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, peanut butter, whipped cream, and sprinkle

Alas, I cannot eat nuts (diverticulitis). I'll stick with butterscotch
topping. Of course, I prefer coffee ice cream when I have ice cream
    Then, no topping.
