"Tyson Foods has announced a major recall of their chicken wings.
The recall includes 67,000 pounds of “Honey BBQ Flavored Boneless
Chicken Wyngz," which were misbranded.
The company says "Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz" were packaged in
bags meant for "Honey BBQ Flavored Boneless Chicken Wyngz," and contain
allergens milk, soy and egg, which are not declared on the label.
The recalled products are:
•25.5 ounce bags with the use by date "Aug 072013" or "Aug 082013"
•12.75 pound shipping cases of "Fully Cooked Boneless Chicken Wyngz
Buffalo Style."
Tyson Foods was alerted to the problem through consumer complaints.
No illnesses have been reported."

Serves them right for calling them "Wyngz".

Why would they need "2% or less of ... egg solids.... nonfat milk ...
soy flour..." in Buffalo "wyngz" anyway? Maybe they should just make
real food without a couple dozen unnecessary ingredients?

What would you recommend for alternate breading ingredients for boneless
wings?

Because they're Tyson's? Everything I've seen from them have
unnecessary ingredients. WTF for? Flavor? blah

I use flour, cornstarch, and corn meal on my *wings*.
Also note that their other flavor(s) (at least their honey BBQ) does
not have those 3 allergenic ingredients. And they managed to bread
those just fine.

The whole food additive thing is an endless cycle. Most of them are
to facilitate mass production, extend shelf life, cover up
flaws/beautify, and then others are added to counteract the effects of
each other. They are not for flavor or wholesomeness.

And it works quite effectively. My *wings* from 2 nights ago (with
good 'ol fashioned BONES)

These I used rice flour instead of cornstarch - was out of corn
starch.

The question should be, why call them "wings" if they are boneless?! Why am
I suddenly reminded of the Gary Larson cartoon about The Boneless Chicken
Ranch?

They were clearly called "wyngz" not wings. If that isn't a big
enough clue then the terminally stupid get what they paid for.

That's a good one! I've always loved the Gary Larson cartoons. I even have
a few books of them. :-D

Sorry for piggy backing your post. I'm Friday cold, tired and
lazy.
At the ACME supermarket today I went to the back wall Tyson and
Banquet freezer cabinets but it was all Banquet breaded chicken
"things."
Either they did a "Total Recall" measure or it was part of the
Supermarket Shuffle to the inner frozen food aisles.
After readding this thread, I didn't mind passing up the hunt.
Best,
Andy

Just for the record, when I buy chicken, I want it all...skin and bones.
Same with ground beast, I want the cheap stuff that has more fat and more
flavor. You pour off most of that rendered fat anyway. Just me but I like
real food, not all this touchy-feely supposedly heathy food that doesn't
have such a good taste.
And if anyone wants to say I'll die sooner because of my (bad) habits, let
me say this. I might die sooner but I'll die happier. "Eat what you want,
just don't eat it all the time."

That's always an option but if people don't file complaints, the FTC
can't take action.

Sorry, Gary, not sure how I re-opened the wrong message to reply to.
This was meant for your reply to the Do Not Call thread.

File a complaint with the FTC over the use of the term "wyngz"?
I think you have the wrong thread, but you might be onto something...
OTOH, I just looked at the package and it says "Contains no wing meat.
Breaded white meat chicken....".
Just be careful when they come out with "Buffalo Style Chucken
Wyngz(tm) and USDA Grade A Terkey Burgers".

I posted an "ignore" follow up because I responded to the wrong post of
Gary's but I'm not sure it'll show up. I have nothing to say about Gary
Larson cartoons, but I used to like them a lot. lol

LOL, yeah. I'm having news reader issues, user error of course. I've
had the worst cold this week and it's impacting everything. I don't
have any leave left from work so I've been working, though from home so
I don't infect anyone.
