All those joints were over rated - Tommys, Pinks, the whole
shebang. For a good sloppy and fattening fast food meal I suggest the
Burrito King on Alvarado and Sunset, if it's still there. There were
a lot of decent spots in L.A. for fast food, some of which I never
made a point to remember. But many of the famous ones did not live up
to their rep, not even close most of the time.

Add "The Apple Pan" to that list.
And some iconic SoCal joints were downright narsty: The Original
Pantry, and Vince's Spaghetti Shack come to mind.

Thanks!
It's been 20+ years, so thusly, a distant but treasured memory.

Wow, I lived out there 23 and never heard of the Apple Pan. So
what, I'm sure there are lots of places I never heard of. I ate
several times at the Pantry. A nice gimmick they have hiring only ex
cons and never closing for any holiday or event including even an
earthquake. The carrots and celery on the table was another gimmick
that was basically useless. Come to think of it, not sure I ever
heard of Vince's Spaghetti shop either. Left there in '91 though. I
lived in Hollywood and when I was cooking at home, when I ate out it
was almost always at one of the many inexpensive Thai restaurants in
east Hollywood or one of the many hole in the wall Mexican joints
along the way. To me they were just restaurants, not some kind of
exotic foreign eating experience. The divier the better.
