Default Slightly OT: Get rid of your keyboard and mouse!!

A new program from Google enables you to stop using your keyboard and mouse,
    and just use body movements......

    http://mail.google.com/mail/help/motion.html

I wonder what the 'movement' is for the phrase, "You give me the ****s"?

Works great. It does take a little getting used to in low light conditions
though if you use it on a smart phone. The new Android phones are upgraded
    with it.

Duct tape it onto your leg just above the knee.

With a steering wheel mount you can legally text and drive.

I think Hammacher Schlemmer sells that steering wheel mount, I noticed
    it in my last catalog.
I don't have a cell phone so I don't know if this is the one:

That has to be the dumbest suggestion. Begging to take your hands on the
    wheel?

Besides the motions require you be standing in front of a stationary
camera. To get yourself totally in the camera's eye, you'd have to be
many feet away from the camera and what's happening on the screen.

I think the entire technology is pretty useless. And who really wants to
go through those motions looking like a circus clown.

Also consider the success/failure rate. They didn't even discuss how to
    enter text.

Then there's Dragon speech to text software for $75. No mouse or
keyboard required there, just a microphone of some kind (Bluetooth).

A steering wheel mount is equally as silly. Every time you made even the
slightest turn, the camera would be swept out of proper orientation.

As well, since the motions require video, not still camera pictures,
who's got the bandwidth? My upload speed is capped at some small bit
rate. It certainly wouldn't work in real time! Google would need time to
study the motions, unlike in the video which was easily staged in
    advance.

And then there's the privacy issue of "Big Brother is watching you" in
    all seriousness!

Google is trying to innovate without actually thinking about it's actual
    usefulness and/or potential for abuse.

    JL,

    Heh heh heh heh heh!

    Yep! Exactly!

Google has so much money, they just let their gmail department think up something
that's never been done. A "proof of concept" exercise. Something to keep them from just
twiddling their thumbs for a paycheck. I firmly believe it will ultimately be scrapped.

    Best,

I'm glad to see that you are taking this seriously, Andy. I hope that
you have sent a detailed Email, return receipt requested, to Google,
with all your detailed points, and asking for individual replies to all
    those thoughtful considerations of yours.

I think other people aren't paying sufficient attention to this, and are
just blowing it off as another April Fool's Day joke, just because it
    came out on that day.

Let us know what you hear back from Google.

    Sincerely,

    Dan
