Shooters
How many use those pastry bags or caulking gun like shooters to dress up
things? If you won't admit to it, just say you have friends who have one,
and they like it.
They are a bit of work, but I like the results. The recent thread about
Ritz crackers made me think of this. Cream cheese, or a creamy dip
consistency topping just looks a lot better when it is decorative, IMHO.
YMMV, but of course, mine is right.

I use that most frequently. Sweet and simple.

A friend of a friend once claimed to use one, but I think it's just an
urban legend...

I have a plastic siringe made for that purpose, with a set of 4 or 5
different end-tips: star shaped hole and round shaped hole, in various
sizes. I never used it for decorative purposes, but just to inject custard
into cannellini (like the cilinders in this composition):

I don't think the plastic will be sturdy enough to pipe a star
shape. Can't you buy a star tip and use that in a plastic bag?

Yes, and I have. :-) The nice thing about a ziplock is that it is
disposable so you only have to clean that plastic tip.

Getting a star tip by itself may be problematical--they usually come in
sets. For 10 bucks you can get a set with several tips and a bag that
fits them. For more you can get fancier sets with a wide range of tips.

Wouldn't work, but you can drop a star tip in and that will work.

Of course, I remember seeing those since you mention it.
Depending how fancy the occasion is, it might be worth it, but
I don't know what they go for. I love those fancy topped crackers.

shoot, er, shucks, from the subject line i thought this might be a
nostalgia item concerning 1970's barrooms:
Kamikaze Shooter
1 ounce Vodka
1 ounce Triple Sec
1 ounce Lime Juice
Shake with ice, strain into shot glasses and serve.

Yah gotta love this group. I've seen a zillion tips at yard sales and
thought I didn't want to put up with the mess of a bag. Very interesting.
