Very cool, Sheldon, that you provide them sanctuary.

We have Black Tailed deer here. They are so people wise that the
ones who live in and around Bellingham live in the neighborhoods and
even travel down Whatcom Creek into downtown. I used to see them
behind the restaurant at the creek and even on the Library lawn which
is on the Civic Square with the Courthouse and City Hall.
There's one resident doe in my neighborhood that brings each years
fawns down into the yards. I've watched her cross a busy
street with the fawn......AT A CROSSWALK......she uses it all the
time. She pauses at the side of the road at the crosswalk and waits
for the traffic to stop and then she crosses the street with the
little one bounding beside her. She's done this for years. Last
year she had twins. I have a neighbor who has a great tree in her
side yard that she uses for a sleeping place nestled under the tree
branches.

what fun! We're not that far from you but our deer are mule deer. I
guess because we have more desert and high mountain desert and you
have deciduous (just guessing) forest as well as pine. We have a
couple of deer that walk through at dusk and dawn when things are
still pretty shadowy. The follow the creek bed and don't go downtown.
With this year's fires, I'm assuming that we will see many more
animals. We've already had a young bear in someone's back yard. I
expect to see deer, elk, bear and mountain lion in the city.

We have white tail deer around here, the middle of the Niagara
Peninsula. I live in a rural area. Our block is almost one square mile.
There are a couple farms and tree nurseries and three large woodlots. I
walk the dog in the fields and bush behind our house and see lots of
deer tracks, often very fresh. My dog follows scents and goes off to
run. I rarely see the deer.
