another, quite the tribute. Doesn't make me cry... just "wow" -- a piano
and voice can do this?

Sarah McLachlan could sing Happy Birthday and make you feel depressed.

Oh, here's one:

Your Long Journey/Your Lone Journey. The Plant-Harris version is
much better, IMO, but I can't find it online, alas.
Maybe this one is slightly better?

Well, that is sure sad, more so because of the history involved.

More sad songs.... (I have music archives. I don't collect this

Nick Cave + Kylie Minogue "Death is Not the End" (sad song,
nonetheless)

Cat's Cradle is up there, but a far less known song would be my candidate, Joy Divisions, *New Dawn Fades*.
----------------------------------------
A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.
We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
'we'll give you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more.'
Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else.
----------------------------------

Some songs that are sad have some hope, even if it's just in the music; Paint It Black, Sound of Silence, etc. have some potential for renewal, but New Dawn Fades is a dead end, unadulterated despair. I might be prejudiced by the fact that the song is the culmination of an A-Side that is an obviousdescent into suicide. The album, Unknown Pleasures, is the darkest ever released.

I like how Kubrick used Paint as the end song for Full Metal Jacket.
