Default Rough life I have

Mom is visiting. She went kinda crazy in Macys, spending a gift card she
had forgotten about. She got herself a couple of frying pans, but I was
the real beneficiary: I now have a covered stainless roasting pan, a
cast-iron dutch oven to make my no-knead bread in (that was the best
loaf I've made so far), a Circulon frying pan, and a
blender/food-processor combo (Black & Decker wide mouth).

Life is hard.

An early Christmas presnt!!

I like the booty....especially the cast iron dutch oven and the Circulon.

I've been looking to replace my (very well used) frypan..... but hey, if
it ain't broke, don't fix it :-)

I know you said this in jest........ and on any 'normal' day it probably
wouldn't have even raised a corner of my eyebrow.

It must be the time of year, it could be we're coming up to a full moon,
or I may be 'premenstruel'.........

Anyhoos, spare a thought for us orphans.

I'm not after sympathy, that's a word that can be found in the dictionary
between shit and syphillis......

How many orphans do we have here on rfc???

Me....... 1

My little sister.... 2 (not a poster to rfc....... *yet*!!)

Anymore...........????

:-) I told her that at this rate (she also bought me a new wardrobe
while she was here, and LOTS of food for the kitchen), she's paid up on
presents until about my 80th birthday.

:-) This one replaces a six-dollar Ikea pan. As you can imagine, it's a
step up.

For sure. I know how fortunate I am to still have my mother. She was
about half my age when her own mother died, and I think I'm really lucky
she's still around. (My dad is still around, too, and I'm glad, but
we're not close. My mom and I talk several times a day, and are really
good friends.)

I wish all the orphans, and those going through the illness of parents,
as well, all the best.

Well, that's kind of a funny story. She had a $100 gift card, so she
picked out $100 worth of stuff for me (and her, but mostly me) --
nonstick roaster, frying pans, saucepan I forgot to mention in the list.
Then she saw a sign that said she'd get an extra 15% back if she
applied for a Macys credit card. So she did, but then it turned out she
only got the 15% back if she USED the card, so she refused to buy the
$100 of stuff on her gift card.

Then the next day, we used the nonstick roasting pan and all the
nonstick coating flaked off (eww!), so we went back and returned it, and
then got a stainless covered model. At that point, she decided to use
her gift card to buy me the food processor/blender and the dutch oven;
she also put the new roaster on the gift card instead of the Macys card,
so I guess her total expenditure was something like $120 (including tax)
for $200+ worth of stuff, after the card discount and stuff.

My mom will literally not be dissuaded from buying me things. I tried
for half an hour to come up with something she could buy HERSELF with
that gift card, and she kept vetoing my ideas. I'm not complaining,
honest, but I really would love to see her splurge on herself for a
change sometimes.

That cast-iron dutch oven makes the BEST no-knead bread, though. We had
some of the regular stuff yesterday, and today I made some with
multi-grain flour and it's awesome.

Yep. Says she has everything she needs, and loves to give me things.
It's always been this way.

ObFood: I still haven't taken the food processor out of the box. I'd
like to make latkes with it, but I need to clean my kitchen first. It's
a pit.

That's good. It's not like it's an all of a sudden thing....... where you
have to wonder 'Why?' :-)

A spotless kitchen is the sign of a sick mind :-)

So long as it's a 'clean dirty', not a 'dirty dirty' :-)
