I like that there still people with turntables. Interesting some post songs
with just the album turning... like it was before MTV. You just had the
album cover and the album spinning to look at.

Did you find Rod: hot and sexy?

I like this song of Loggins
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WQNMWBSGUQ

I did not know this of This is It.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8SSdyflGN4

"Many people believe that this is a love song when in fact that isn't true.
I read on Kenny Loggins website that while this song did begin as a love
song, after visiting his sick Father in the hospital, he transformed this
record into an inspiration song to encourage his father.

His Father was gravely ill, & could ellect to undergo further treatment that
could prolong his life, but could also lead to a painful recovery process.
The inspiration worked! His father did undergo the treatment, & he lived for
    another four years."

I'm guessing that was in the late 70's or later when Rod's music mellowed
    out quite a bit.

I saw Rod Stewart & Faces in the early 70's and was blown away. It was the
best concert of all that I've attended. Hard core rock&roll then though.
He wouldn't have done one with L&M at that time. That would have been a big
    mismatch.

Funny too. When I saw him in concert, the AM radio stations were playing to
death his newest hit, "Maggie Mae." I was so damn sick of hearing that
song. Then he was coming in concert and my girlfriend really wanted to go
but I didn't. I took her though and was dreading the night.

There were 2 warm up bands playing first...good ones but I forget who.

Then RS & Faces came out and just rocked like I've never heard before! Even
"Maggie Mae" kicked ass when I heard it live. They projected so much energy
in all of their songs. As I said, it was the best concert I ever attended
and I was an instant fan.

I sat up later all night playing guitar (I was in a band at the time) and
the next day I went out and bought several of his old albums. That one
concert instantly converted me into a big Rod Stewart fan.

To each his own. I was never much of a Rod Stewart fan. And I have to
confess that I am not much of a large concert venues. I had a bad
experience when I was 15. We went to see the Beatles. At $4.25 it
seemed like a lot of money at the time. The opener was King Curtis.
That was not my type of music at the time, though I later developed an
appreciation for it. I just learned a few years ago that King Curtis'
guitarist on that tour was Jimi Hendrix. It was a few years before he
launched his very successful but short lived solo career. Once the
Beatles came on stage the thousands of girls in the audience started
screaming at the top of their lungs and I never heard a note or a single
word of the lyrics, just 10,000 or more screaming teenage girls. It was
    not pleasant.

Aside from my unpleasant concert experience, there is the absurd costs
of concerts these days. Ticket prices for Madonna's upcoming Vancouver
show topped out at $375. As per usual, scalpers stocked up with the
hope of making a profit. Meanwhile, the value of those tickets as
dropped by about half. The cheaper seats can be had for $50-60. Still
way too much to pay to see Madonna IMO... or any band. Looks good on
    the scalpers.

I quit going for different, but similar, reasons. Couldn't hear the
star. In this case, the reason was technological.

Went to see George Thoroughgood and Little Feat (2nd gen).
Sub-woofers were the new thing. This outdoor concert bowl had been
the best acoustic venue in Northern California (NorCal) for years.
Then they re-did the speaker system, adding huge sub-woofers to the
mix. They also put young kids on the dual soundboards. Between the
thump-thump loving kids and the new subwoofers, George might as well
stayed home. Couldn't hear a single note he played over his own bass
and drums. WTF!? I think I attended one more concert after that and
gave it up live concerts, entirely.

That's a shame. I like George Thoroughgood. I listen to him a lot when
mowing the lawn. I have the ear protection with a radio and a built in
auxiliary jack that I plug my MP3 player into.

I did see a couple outstanding outdoor performances. One was a Jeff
Healey and his band and the opener was the Downchild Blues Band. It was
held at a nearby race track on a beautiful summer evening. It was the
best concert experience ever. The other was a copy band, note for note
Queen. The sounded just like the real thing, and in a big outdoor
amphitheatre. It was under $20. Nuts to $200-300 concert tickets.

ok. I read the rest of your post and see now why... have you ever seen
    Withnail and I? Highly recommended.

Louie CK went Sarah Palin and is selling his tix direct. And the last
concert he did, he sold for $5 on his website. (I bought a copy) He's
grossed over a mil. I hope this is the future.

I went to see BTO a couple years at a free concert on the Lawn... It was CF
Turner, and 4 20 something dudes.

I went to see The Righteous Brothers in concert and enjoyed them very much.
Then I went to an Alabama concert, the noise killed my ears and the pot

I love Withnail and I! I have a copy but was disappointed it does not have
closed caption. (Being american, I miss some of the nuances of the
dialogue) So I downloaded a copy, and an .srt file so I could have the
dialogue with CC. I always have to turn away from the opening when the lady
    is eating the egg sandwich.

I bought the 20th anniversary PAL version because it had more special
features. The story about Viv is heart wrenching. Funny, sad, uplifting.

I bring ear plugs if it's inside. Went to a Bruce Cockburn show about 20
years ago and had to go to the bathroom. It was downstairs, the concert
    sounded better down there.

I don't go to conerts anymore, unless outdoors. Or have earplugs.

My wife has a cousin who is an actor and was raised mostly in Britain
and started his acting career there. I suggested the movie to him,
thinking that he would like it. He had not only seen it and enjoyed it,
he said that was what his life was like starting off in the business.
