I don't seem to have problems with Google, at least if I do it's very
rare and of short duration.
I like google groups. Use them a lot.

They appear to have destroyed any thread views of the group. Maybe I
just don't know how to set it up to show a thread view, I dunno. I
poked around a little and fojnd nothing effectual.

Google is integrating GG with it's Google+ social network but these changesare not for the benefit of people that use NNTP newsreaders. The mobile version typically will not quote the post you're replying to. You can have the posts sorted according to threads but the view is somewhat confusing. Youcan also sort the treads according to dates.
If you post on GG you can add stuff like your picture, profile, links, and God knows what else. Google's aim is to change how we see and use Usenet.

You still don't have to use the new interface if you don't want to.
Would you like me to google that for you?

Uh, yes, Google is forcing the change. I have a message at the top of
the GG page: "The old Google Groups will be going away soon. Switch
to the new Google Groups."
Does that sound like a choice?

No. But consider that google groups says that certain tasks will
continue to need the old interface;
http://support.google.com/groups/bin...answer=1053159
And consider that google groups still says you can change back to the
old interface;
http://support.google.com/groups/bin...vms95&cbrank=1
Which is validated by this post to rec.games.pinball:
"Okay, I found a way out, if you click on the unobvious red "Groups"
link button to the left of New Topic, then click the blue "Switch to
the New Groups" button on the right, you get a "Click Here to switch
back" option on the next page.
"And, how about that, the "Tell us why you're leaving" button now
works, so let 'em have it!"

Who was George Middius in his previous incarnation? Is this another
Alfie?
Oh, duh. Of course it is.

Not. I am me, and Alfie, AFAIK, was a movie character played by M.
Caine.
I'm sure if you compare Alfie's posts with mine you'll find many more
dissimilarities than parallels. And it won't be a close count.

When you think about it, text only is pretty 20th century.

What does this mean, then? It looks like you can only post and reply
in the new GG.
**********************
Google Groups (existing UI) versus Google Groups (new UI)
The new Google Groups is focused on the discussions portion of Google
Groups. This article outlines common tasks that you can and cannot
perform with Google Groups(new UI). Simply, most group ownership tasks
must be done in the original Google Groups interface.
Things you can do in Google Groups (new UI):
Create a new topic (discussion or announcement)
Create a post
Reply to a post
Join a group
View and change your personal group settings
Find a group
Return to the original Google Groups interface to perform these
actions:
Create a group
Add members to a group
View a list of group members
Assign group managers
Transfer ownership of a group
Change member settings

No, alfie posted from Google and asked how to set up his newsreader,
then started posting as James Post and somebody else before that. Then
after several more incarnations of learning how to post to usenet
without pissing everybody off, you have reappeared now as GM.
You're still not fooling anybody, Alfie. Not even yourself.
