And besides poor beautiful Italy, I thought Hawaii had more than its
fair share but egads up in Alaska, they have more! Shows me not to be
so local-centric. Thanks for the worldly map.

The earthquake was very bad, and today aftershocks. We moved to Italy
after the big quake in Naples area, it was still a mess two years
later, buildings were down streets were simply ...,. gone. An address
was ridiculous, you simply drew a map of how to get to your house.l
People were living in tents, still.
We were there during a time of earthquakes, there would be many each
day, but only a few would be strong enough to feel. They subsided a
fter a couple of years, but maybe there will be many now during this
period.
Also remember- that underwater there were interesting things that
came to the surface and other simply disappeared.
Some people sufferered great hardships until apartment building were
built to handle all the refugees.

There seem to be quite a few up in Alaska, but none have as many human
casualties or as much structural damage as in Italy.

Being in earthquake country (California), I've learned something about
earthquakes. The geologists say that the Pacific Ocean is a giant
plate, rotating counter-clockwise. North America is on a different
plate. The earthquake zone is that huge area around the edge of the
Pacific plate, where it is grinding away.
