Default OT: Aussie soldier MIA Afghanistan for 14months, found!!!

After almost 14 months MIA, after two consecutive tours, and being involved
in some of the bloodiest fighting during that time, and as the longest
serving 'soldier' in Afghanistan, she has been found safe!!

What a great story, Peter! I had a Lab who lived to be 15 and a
greater breed never walked the earth. Fitting in with my prior post
about my beef ragout looking like dog food to our 6 year old
granddaughter, I'd be more than happy to whip up a batch for Sabi. At
least Sabi would *like* the idea that it looks like dog food!

That it is. Mark Donaldson was awarded the Victoria Cross (equivalent to
your Medal of Honor) for his actions in the firefight that Sabi
disappeared from.

He was told about her finding after an audience with Queen Elizabeth on
Rememberance Day, and was absolutely stoked that Sabi was back.

Of course it was a US soldier who found her! The incompetent Aussie
turds cannot fight themselves out of a paper bag let alone find anyone
let alone a dog. The US and UK have always had to SAVE the Aussies. Just
look at WW2 the US had to cover their asses and pull them out of the
fire since they were too busy drinking tea and cowering in fear!

The wanker troll seems to forget the likes of Martin Wallace, Mark
Donaldson et al, who always seem to be pulling US "special" forces out of
the shit.

Typical of a Lab - they always need a purpose. When the convoy was
attacked, she probably thought she didn't have a purpose there and
went to find one somewhere else. LOL. I loved our Lab, black like
this one, and wouldn't have missed having her around for anything.

Or got bored with it all and went looking for food ;-)

Dogs are like people, and people are like dogs. Some you like having
around, others, you want to shoot on sight :-)

In my immediate neighbourhood, we have 2 Husky's, a blind and deaf black
mutt, and my pooch. One husky (across the road) now wears a 'bark collar'
because it's a psycho barker. The other husky is hardly ever there, and
when it is, is usually quiet but does get set off by the mongrel across
the road. The deaf and blind mutt, well she barks at anything she *thinks*
she sees, or hears. Luckily, that's not too much.

My pooch just sits/lays there listening to these other clowns carrying on
like pork chops, with a look of disdain on her face :-)

She only arcs up when someone comes near our property.

I think I might get her cloned :-)

That sounds like the Infantry version from the 60's - 80's.

Their SpecFor nowadays are usually more 'professional', but they still always
seem to get themselves in the shit.

The WW1 Simpsons donkey legend was a Propaganda myth and so is "
Sabi the bomb dog " , smoke screen distractions to HIDE the sad truth

The "Simpson" legend grew largely from an account of his actions
published in a 1916 book, Glorious Deeds of Australasians in the Great
War.

John (Jack) Simpson Kirkpatrick (6 July 1892–19 May 1915 aged 23) was
a stretcher bearer with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps
during the Gallipoli Campaign, in World War I.

After landing at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915, he obtained a donkey and
began carrying wounded British Empire soldiers from the frontline to
the beach, for evacuation. He continued this work for three and a half
weeks, often under fire, until he was killed.

The "Simpson" legend grew largely from an account of his actions
published in a 1916 book, Glorious Deeds of Australasians in the Great
War.

This was a wartime propaganda effort, and many of its stories of
Simpson, supposedly rescuing 300 men and making dashes into no mans
land to carry wounded out on his back, are demonstrably untrue.

In fact, transporting that many men down to the beach in the three
weeks that he was at Gallipoli would have been a physical
impossibility, given the time the journey took.[1]

However, the stories presented in the book were widely and
uncritically accepted by many people, including the authors of some
subsequent books on Simpson.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Simpson_Kirkpatrick

EXACTLY like they are doing with the myth of "Sabi the bomb dog" ,
Propaganda to bury the losses under a fluffy puppy dog story , invent
a lost dog myth exactly like they INVENTED the Simpson Myth when they
have NO real HEROES they manufacture them for the media propaganda
machine

The dog was found and returned to the local USA troops who kept her as
a pet in their base until she was ' noticed ' by an Aussie wrong in
the propaganda dept and kept for the PMs visit photo Op

Australian sniffer dog Sabi

Sabi, a bomb sniffer dog, back at base in Afghanistan after going
missing during a battle between Australian troops and militants.

A highly trained Australian special forces combatant who disappeared
during a firefight in Afghanistan has been found safe, well and waggy-
tailed after surviving for more than a year in the desert.

Sabi, an expert in detecting improvised explosive devices who also
happens to be a four-year-old black labrador, went missing 14 months
ago during a battle in which nine Australian soldiers, including her
handler, were wounded. Months of searching revealed nothing and the
dog, on her second tour of Afghanistan, was officially listed as
missing in action.

Last week, however, a US serviceman known only as John spotted Sabi
wandering in a remote area of the southern province of Oruzgan and,
knowing his Australian counterparts had lost a bomb-sniffing dog,
tried out some commands to which, Lassie-style, the labrador
responded.

Back at Tarin Kowt base, Sabi was a little grizzled but otherwise
unharmed. Her trainer checked she really was Sabi by means of the
tennis ball test: he nudged a ball to her; she picked it up. "It's
amazing, just incredible, to have her back," the trainer said.

Australia's prime minister, Kevin Rudd, who was coincidentally
visiting his country's troops during a brief visit to Afghanistan,
posed for photographs petting the dog, alongside US General Stanley
McChrystal, overall commander of the US and Nato missions to
Afghanistan. Rudd declared Sabi "a genuinely nice pooch".

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Sabi showed no signs of stress
after her ordeal and greeted strangers "with a sniff and a lick".

It is not known whether the dog spent the past 14 months eluding
Taliban forces in the area, as befits a special forces combatant, or
whether she was captured and held as a prisoner of war, but the fact
that she was in good condition when found suggested she had been well
looked after, military spokesman Brigadier Brian Dawson, told
reporters in Canberra.

Guess I touched a nerve huh? So instead of drinking tea the Aussie
losers woke up drunk, and kept drinking for the rest of the day and
night as would be expected from cowards too scared to do anything other
than lay on their backs stone cold drunk/passed out so they do not have

Huskies are notorious for needing lots of run room - my son had one
for a while and it would jump the fence and be off every chance it
had. He finally gave it back to the guy he got it from .... a lot of
dogs bark at rocks, if they think the rock is being sassy. I love 'em
anyway. ;-)

dog picks up ball is definitive proof, all right. gotta love the
scientific method.

And howling/crying. I love the look of them, especially their faces, but
they are a proverbial PITA.

Every afternoon, it takes the kids across the road for a run/walk. You can
see the sled dog in it :-)

That's where I've been lucky..... my pooch only barks for a reason. One
low "Woof", and she wants me to attend to her, a growl and a cursory
"Woof, woof", and she has seen someone/something approaching (that's her
warning)...... and if someone comes in the yard, well..... I know about it
:-)

She is very good with 'telling' people as well. I've had people come on
the property that she's gone off at, but after I've come out she has
settled down and allowed them to come up and pat her.... and then there's
people that she just doesn't like. I learnt long ago to trust her
instincts :-)

One funny (sorta) story...... I had 2 cops come to my door (for business
reasons!!), she went off at them when they arrived but settled after I
came out. The Senior Sgt I was talking to walked past her and patted her,
she didn't mind. The Senior Constable following thought he would do the
same, she was wagging her tail and as soon as he put his hand out to pat
she, she tried to rip his arm off. He bailed very quickly and went around
her. The junior cop started to say things like "dangerous dog, should be
reported" and the SSgt. cut him off and said she was just doing her job.

I heard later that the junior cop was suspended, charged, and later sacked
for being a 'dirty cop'.
