Default Now it's Pizza with an Egg on Top!

I'm not too keen on pizza, but this definitely takes the cake, eh
<VBG>! How about an egg on top of that pizza, too?! Today here is an
article in the food section of my local newspaper by J.M Hirsch, AP Food
Editor, about "Egg can top off your pizza" and a photo. I googled using
'AP Food Editor J.M. Hirsch egg pizza' as the search string, and the
following is just one of the many hits provided:

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/features...,7157427.story

    or

    http://tinyurl.com/23lreaj

Definitely interesting, although I'm not so sure I'd try it (?). Anyone
    else?

    Sky,

It's supposed to get scrambled and mixed in there someplace I thought.

Anyways, I'd eat it, even if "they" didn't want me to!

It's fairly common in Europe and quite good.

Egg was Alice Waters' favorite pizza topping.

It looks kind of odd but I bet it tastes good. I got hooked on bacon and
egg pizza. It's really good when the crust is crispy outside and soft
inside. I ate it so often it probably gave me diabetes. I'd recommend it
    in moderation.

But you don't get to define the term "pizza." Common usage defines it, and
    that *was* a pizza.

Look at the pizza on the cover! Peter Reinhardt is a pretty well-respected
cookbook author, and as you can see the book is given four-and-a-half stars
by the readers, so it's a pretty good cookbook.

What I find a bit weird is that the book doesn't have a *recipe* for that
    pizza on the cover.

Now that's peculiar! If there's a photo of a food item on the cover of
a cookbook, I'd expect that recipe to be included. Poor job by the
    editor(s)/publisher then IMO.

Absolutely! Just because eggs is a traditional pizza ingredient in
Italy and the rest of the Europe, and because good American chefs use
them as such, doesn't mean it's pizza!

If it ain't a Domino Pizza or Pizza Hut topping - it ain't real pizza!
Just my first cousin (and brother-in-law) Leroy!

    http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/restaurants/pizza.htm

    Pizza in Italy

Most pizza menus have similar items, but you will find differences by
region. In some regions, adding an egg to the top of the pizza is an
    option.

    http://www.whiteonricecouple.com/rec...-alla-bismark/

    Pizza alla Bismark- with eggs

We were catching up on some of the “No Reservations” and noticed when
Bourdain was on the farm in New Jersey, they were making a pizza with
fresh cracked egg on the top. That looked pretty damn tasty, so we
embarked upon creating our home version. Simplicity seemed best for
this little delicacy, so we took one of our homemade pizza crusts,
sautéed up some thick-cut sweets onions, cracked a couple eggs on top,
then glided it into a nice & hot oven. The results were scrumptious.
The richness of the eggs were balanced nicely by the sweet onions, and
the thin crisp crust was tasty as always.

    http://italianfood.about.com/library...y/aa021305.htm.

    Italian Pizza Toppings & More

Once you have your dough, what to do with it? The standard topping
combinations one encounters in Italy differ somewhat from those I have
encountered elsewhere. The quantities given below will be sufficient
    for one pizza each.

Pizza alla Bismark: What's that egg doing here?

For reasons unknown to me a pizza with an egg cracked over it so
it emerges from the oven sunny-side-up is called a Bismark. Excactly
what else goes onto the pizza is up to the pizzaiolo, but ham goes
quite well. So: 1/2 cup tomato sauce or chopped canned tomatoes, 2-3
ounces thinly sliced ham, shredded, and an egg. Spread the tomato
sauce over the pizza, sprinkle the remaining ingredients over the
sauce, crack the egg over the middle of the pizza, drizzle with a few
    drops olive oil and bake.

Pizzas with eggs on top have been around in Italy for more than a
