OK, so one owner is named Fukanaga. But I see something more subtle going
on here.

Uh yeah. I don't like that Pink Taco name either.
Here we have a noodle place called What The Pho. Pho is pronounced "Fuh"
but you probably already knew that.

Hee hee, nah - nothing to that. Probably salmon tacos.

My favorite Thai joint deliberately pronounces it FO because to often it can
sound like you are saying something else what with all the hard K sounds in
their language.

I heard a story yesterday of a little girl whose preschool teacher is named
Mrs. Forker. But of course the little girl didn't pronounce it correctly
and the mom was horrified. Told her to call her Mrs. F.
When my nephew was a toddler he told my mom that he had a knife, a stab and
a spoon. She corrected him and told him that it wasn't called a stab but a
fork. Then after she heard him repeat the word back incorrectly, she told
him that he should just call it a stab.

Rumor has it there was a fried chicken joint near here that was called
"Mother Plucker's Chickens." I am pretty sure they were intentionally being
suggestive.

I once played a drinking game with some sailors and won. Of course it
helped that they had already had a few beers before we started and I didn't.
It started out with everyone taking a turn at saying "One red hen". The
next round was "Two cute ducks". Each round got harder and you had to say
each thing in order. If you messed up, you had to take a drink. The 10th
round was, "Ten fig pluckers and ten fig plucker's sons, but I'll never
pluck a fig till the fig plucking's done"!

A men's clothing store in Eugene Oregon was called the "Gay Blade"
.....up until about 1980 ... then it became .... "the Blade."
And of course, a local Ca. neighbourhood didn't like their street
address of "Gay Court" (named after the builders daughter a la "Gay
Talese") so they petitioned the city and it was renamed Ganymede Way,
much to the amusement of the more literary gay community and to no
apparent objection by the residents of the former "Gay Court".

Apparently it means "Big East" dong = east if google is to be trusted.

Fudd Ruckers got away with their name so the next attempt pushes the
name issue a bit further. If it works they'll open a chain that sells
Vietnamese Pho'. It will be called Phuc Yu Thieu theoretically named
after a descendent of the former dictator Ngyuen Van Thieu. At some
point folks will stop accepting iffy names but companies will push the
edge until it happens.
As to the burgers themselves, plenty of small places selling better
burgers have been around for a long time. The market is now filled with
small chains spreading. In-N-Out has it's own naming issue - If you
live in their territory you'll see bumper stickers carefully trimmed
from "In-N-Out Burger" to "In-N-Out urge". Five Guys Burger and Fries,
Fudd Ruckers, the list of better burger bistros grows steadily.
This summer we vacationed in Los Angeles metro. Our attempted first
start was at the In-N-Out on La Ceniega that's at the end up the LAX
main runway. Too crowded as we hit it at high noon. So our real first
start was another In-N-Out on our path to the motel. Yet another better
burger bistro chain based in LA metro is Tommys chilli burgers. We had
a meal there during our stay also.
