    Default Jello Shots

Seems the latest trend in the bars and at parties are these Jello Shots.
Basically jello made with some liquor such as Vodka, Rum, or any other.
The concept is simple enough, just substitute the alcohol for part of
the water. What I dont understand is how the alcohol remains in the
jello, (or does it?). Eaten fresh, they can pack a good punch, and if
made strong, you dont want to eat too many of them.

But here's the interesting part. A local bar had a special on these
things for a holiday celebration. They used small paper cups for the
jello. Several of the cups had a mark on the bottom, written with a
pen. Whoever got one of these "marked" cups, got a free one. I tried
one and it was quite potent. One was enough for me.

Anyhow, the bar made too many of them, and rather than waste them, five
days later they pulled a few trays of them out of the refrigerator and
handed them out free to everyone. I ate one and felt no effect from it.
After eating three more, I barely felt any effect. This makes me wonder
if the alcohol evaporates, since one freshly made cup had more effect
than four that were 5 days old.

Have any of you made these?

Anyone have any comments about the alcohol evaporating?

"latest trend" ?? LOL... where were you 20 years ago?? Old news.
Especially with college kids years ago. Fun stuff!

Why wouldn't the alcohol remain? You're not cooking it off or anything.

This is the same troll that's been posting all that other trolling
bull**** we've been seeing lately ("cockbook", most recently).

And now the asshole has the nerve to come in and act like a
participant and ask for help? I don't know about anybody else, but I
can't wait to help him out. Where does the line start?

No, the alcohol doesn't evaporate. The normal mix is 50% water, 50% vodka.

Many times. From memory, I only used vodka...... which basically 'goes'
with most jellies, especially the citrus ones.

    It doesn't.

Honestly. I didn't know that kids did Jello shots anymore. I'd have
thought it passe by now (plus you can't make Hot Buttered Nipples with
    them).

I don't know if I ever tried one. I figured it was a good money making
gimmick which I didn't feel like wasting money. Figure less than half a
    shot.

Jell-0 is cheap. Vodka... depends on how cheap you want to be. I worked
with a woman who competed in BBQ contests. One day she was planning to
leave work early to compete in one such competition. (BBQ contests also
apparently involve lots of booze.) So she brought the Jell-O shots in tiny
plastic souffle cups (with lids) and stored them in the break-room
refrigerator. Some crisis or another came up so she couldn't leave work
early as planned. And around 2PM someone suggested she break out the Jell-0
shots. A good time was had by all!

Alcohol never evaporates or dissipates during cooking. You have to cook
something for atleast three to four hours to eradicate all traces of
alcohol. Some cooking methods are less effective at removing alcohol
than just letting it stand out uncovered overnight.
