IAWTP, I can cook pretty well and haven't met too many dishes I can't
reasonably replicate. The bloomin' onion is all about equipment.
LOTS of hot oil needed. (Although I can't say I care for them).

I prefer White Castle onion chips. We don't need no rings or
bloomin' this or that.

This is also how I make fried onions at home. It doesn't take up as
much room in the skillet as compared to rings. Sure, rings and
blooms are pretty, but they're not practical.

I even have a bloomin onion machine which I haven't used (As Seen on
TV). Bought at a garage sale for $1. The seller hadn't used it
either.

I suggest you try one... but only one. While it is a fabulous thing to
eat, it is so horribly bad for you, only once is a good thing.

I tried to make one once by hand. Not fun. A bunch of floating mess
in the oil without the desired end result.

Plenty of grease, nice sized onion. Just didn't turn out right. Not
sure why.

And exactly how is a crosspost trolling? Looked like a legitimate question
to me. Do you mean that just because a post is crossed to other groups that
are correct for the topic, that it automatically makes it trolling? It
appeared to me to be someone who wanted to make a blooming onion for a snack
while watching college football. Maybe he and his college football buddies
wanted some expertise from a cooking group on how to accomplish that? Does
that mean he can't share the answer to his question with them? Do you think
all college football watchers are trolls if they crosspost?

There are recipes for the batter everywhere, and special cutters for
cutting the onion. I'd think the hardest thing would be to put enough
oil in a big enough pan to deep fry it .... and then, of course, you
have the 2800 or 3500 or whatever calories that are in it....
