Alas, all to easily Sorry to hear about your pain & medical
condition. Thankfully, it's usually easily repaired with relatively
    simple surgery.

Sky, who's no nurse or MD!

P.S. There's always 'some' risk to any surgery!

Dr didn't recommend surgery yet. Just a (shhhhhh) girdle.

    It's not a girdle - it's a 'body shaper'!!!! Or so I think that's
the PC label nowadays ? Spanx ((tm)??) & such, eh?

After this weekend and I could barely walk I was glad to get the hernia
diagnosis. It feels like severe menstral cramps and I don't get those
anymore. So hernia makes sense and better than something like ovarian
cancer which is what I was thinking.

Why didn't the doctor offer you a fix. Even if you wear a girdle
the hernia is still there. Hernias are an easy fix, I would ask the
doctor or seek a second opinion. I mean, why put yourself into a
damn girdle for the rest of your life cause that hernia isn't going
    anywhere.

I'm with Mags and Om on this one. A hernia is a tear in the abdominal
muscles which allows to intestines to pop thru and get caught, sometimes
causing the intestine to get gangrenous as the bloodflow is cut off.
(something I remember from anatomy class in the early 80's). It also screws
up your digestion process since that part of your intestine is not
functioning. Popping the intestine back in the tear and strapping the tear
closed to keep it from happening again is a quick fix. The tear is still
there, you forget or get sick of binding yourself up and 'pop' there is the
hernia again. The procedure, for lack of a better analogy, is like mending
tear in the seam of your pants. Stitch the two sides back together and
your heiney doesn't stick out anymore.

A girdle, not a truss? (The latter has a pad which pushes in on the
    herniated area. Ugh.)
