I take d-Limonene and eat candied ginger. Also take Maalox.

I take famotidine (generic prilosec) and try to eat as much
cruciferous vegetables as I can. Also, I love cabbage, collards and
    broccoli anyways.

The thing that gives me the most intense heartburn is watermelon. For
no good reason. Next is coffee, but I can't stop drinking it. Coffee
is even worse than any alcohol product, including wine.

I've watched the prilosec TV commercials. Problem I have with that
medicine is I don't need 24-hour heartburn relief.

A small dose of TUMS is, if needed, good enough temporary heartburn
    relief.

Prilosec and meds of that type can have horrible side effects. They did for
    me.

Tagamet, Xantac,... there are a large number of over the counter
solutions. Otherwise, contact your local Gastroenterologist and/or quit
    drinking.

    Your whining is monotonous.

I quit drinking ALL coffee on the advice of a gastroenterologist/MD
    about 18 years ago.

Coffee is poison. Best advice I ever got from a real Doctor...

    Julie,

Without much research, 24-hour medicine of any sort are suspect to me.

Knowing little about side effects but just by virtue of being OK'd by
the FDA, I'll bet there are some!

I'm not prone to heartburn all the time.

Oregano and I continue to remain friendly "NOT MY FAULT" friends.

    Best,

    Andy

But they don't for me. If I'd lose some damned weight, I probably
    wouldn't
need the Prilosec. I never had any trouble with reflux until I got
    above 250,

I got my new 'poison' maker about a week ago, Sunny has already had a good
    workout :-)

I even have friends dropping round for coffee that used to go to the local
    cafe for their fix ;-)

Coffee is only poison if you drink *bad* coffee.

    250 is OK if you're 6'4" ;-)

My 'fighting weight' in the Army was between 230-240lbs. I'm only 6'2",
but back then I was *extremely* fit.

Now I'm just fit, and at last weigh in...... about 215.

I have *never* had a problem with reflux, till 6 months ago.

Now I take 1 Somac every two days.... when I feel it starting to 'come
    on' again.

I agree. I have never been a coffee drinker, but the few times that I
have had it, it gave me heartburn and an upset stomach.
