Temporal confusion is a sign of mental incapacity: Memorial Day is still
eight days away, and that was pointed out to you the FIRST time you
mentioned it. You seem to be in a fugue state. What did you take? Peyote?
Salvia? Flunitrazepam? Special K?
Anyway, in Photo #5, there's a somewhat-galling inaccuracy:
It says, "Memorial Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to the people
who fought for the things we have." That's not right. Veteran's Day is the
day which celebrates the people who fought. Memorial Day is the day which
celebrates the people who DIED. See the difference? (Well, YOU probably
don't. But rational people might.)

Which tomorrow; is it "last tomorrow", "this tomorrow" or "next tomorrow"
you want to take off. Oh, wait, I see by the date of your message that it
was "last tomorrow" not "this tomorrow" 8-)
Here's hoping you have many happy tomorrows

Memorial Day is always on the last Monday in May. Last year it was May 25.
Next Year it will be May 30.

In the mid-70's the US Government decided to be 'more cost efficient' all
'non-religious' holidays would be scheduled on a Monday to give all the
government employees a three day weekend. They also combined the
independently celebrated Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays to one holiday
to celebrate 'all presidents'.....The government may call the last Monday in
May Memorial Day, but May 31 will always be the historical, and in my
opinion, legitimate Memorial Day. The same as 2/22 is Washington's birthday
and 2/12 is Lincoln's......why lump them together and say we're also
celebrating Gerald Ford (just using him as an example - I don't know when
his birthday is) as well.

The historical Memorial Day was/is May 30th, not the 31st. -aem

Correct. My calendar shows the traditional day, May 30, which does not
change, and the observed day, which does.

I wish they'd do that for Independence day, too.

I love three day weekends, but it is a sad state of affairs because it
does not feel like we're celebrating anything special other than an
extra day off anymore.
PS: I thought the three day weekends happened because so many people
turned long weekends into short vacations (using sick time) and
employers lost too much productivity.

I'm missing the connection.
Before 1971, Memorial Day was on May 30. That always struck me as
odd‹seems like being on the last day of the month makes more sense for
that sort of thing. Now it's the last Monday in May.

But, but,. . . but. . . Memorial Day used to be on May 30, not May 31.

From the VA's history of Memorial Day
(http://www1.va.gov/opa/speceven/memday/history.asp), formerly Decoration
Day:
"Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an
organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) —
established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves
of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that
Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was
chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country."

She's clearly too dumb to realize that if she has associated it with her
brother's birthday every year.
