I bought a Chinese-made glass pitcher at Target.
Darn thing only lasted a few days before something
in the dishrack slid into it and cracked it.
I think they're a poor value.
On the other hand, the thick-walled U.S.-made
glass cookie jar I bought has survived a few
accidents with only a couple chips to show
for it. I'm very happy with it. I don't use it
for cookies -- it's used for marinating meat
and mushrooms.

They did have one at Walmart but it said not to wash in
a dishwasher!
why would that be?

Maybe the shape is too awkward for a dishwasher?? Personally, something
like that I would hand wash anyway.
Just curious - why does it need to be dishwasher safe?

If it breaks, they're not responsible. Don't support Walmart.

Wow...ever thought of that. I don't shop at Walmart anyway....can they
sink any lower? Sheesh.
I did see one that is dishwasher safe at chefcatalog.com similar to the
one Wayne posted.

I just found (via Sqwertz, thanks again!) a nice Italian made tempered
glass one and it was shipped to my house. I like it very much. First
thing I did was toss out the interior "ice tube" (kinda looks
interesting for kinky ice play though?) and the little plastic twizzle
stick stirrer. It holds more than my large Fiesta pitcher and we use it
daily for iced tea.

Lets see... I pour boiling water into it. I also have put it through the
dishwasher.
What more does it need to do?

No matter how great the quality, you will be able to use the
dishwasher on it sparingly, as over time, it will become etched, which
makes it cloudy. I don't ever put my good glassware in the
dishwasher.
If it is slight fogginess, it can be removed (believe it or not) with
nail polish remover and some rubbing. But if it's got a heavy etch on
it, you can't fix it with anything.
Just FYI.

I have those exact same pitchers and they go in the dishwasher all the
time. I have had no problems with them at all. They are pretty heavy
duty pitchers.

Believe it or not, you can find them at Budweiser. Try a search for
Budweiser pitchers.
Or perhaps try a bar supply store.

They're not saying you cannot, they just don't recommend it.
> why would that be?
Simple... glassware gets etched in automatic dishwashers... so it's
really dumb-dumb-dumb to buy good quality glassware unless you're
willing to wash it by hand.
A decent heavy glass pitcher is going to cost more than a few bucks,
so unless you have more dollars than brain cells... only a putz-brain
is gonna put a glass pitcher in the dishwasher.
What the frig is so difficult about washing a pitcher by hand...

yes, you're looking for a glass beer pitcher, approximate size, half-
gallon, and much heavier weight glass than those available at wally
world, or any other regular retailer. surfas kitchen supplies in
culver city, ca has them. they can also be ordered on line at
www.surfasonline.com.
harriet & critters in azusa (ms pk (the lady manx who rules the house)
has returned from the vet, with a diagnosis of a bladder infection and
is being very, very spoiled, with freshly boiled chicken that has
been deboned & ground up for her, and fried liver, also ground up. j
j , the world famous jack russell terrior is of course, more pissed
off than usual).
