Consider a Braun stick blender with a chopper attachment. I love mine
for such uses.

Default Food processor suggestions sought?

I am thinking about buying a food processor and can use some
suggestions. Nothing big, maybe a mini might do and something not to
expensive.

I would only need it for basic stuff such as making chicken salad,
tuna salad or bologna spread.

Even though it would be for a one-person household, I would like
something that would handle enough for a couple of people.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Mark,

I don't think you can get a new one any more but Cuisinart made the
Little Pro Plus, which is a great little processor with a powerful motor
and a small bowl. It also came with a juicer and a "shooter" attachment
so you could process more food using the disks.

See if you can score a used one on ebay. I think you can still get parts
for it from Cuisinart.

I have had one for about 19 years and I really love it. It's perfect for
2 people and the "shooter" helps when you need to shred or slice more
stuff than the bowl can handle.

Cuisinart is one of the names you want. The other is KitchenAid. That
being said, I really like Cuisinart, but I am not sure of their
warranty these days. I got mine back in the late 80s when the motor
had a lifetime guarantee. I have had to replace parts, but it is
easy enough to do...There is a site that has great replacement parts.

My favorite, which I do not own, but have used in other people's home
is the Braun CombiMax. I would love to have one. We have a Cuisinart,
which has held up for about seven years just fine, but I do like the
other. Part of the reason I like the Braun is because it is a sealed
system, so it doesn't leak. It is hard to find, though not too
expensive.

I bought my little chopper on Amazon. It's made by Black and Decker and
has a 3-cup capacity. I have a huge Cuisinart food processor for big
jobs, this one works a treat for all of about $15 (when I bought it):

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-E...7815529&sr=1-1

or

In all honesty, I don't use it all that often, but on the rare occasion
when I do, it does a fine job.

Let me be the first to second. I use my stick blender all the time. I
use my food processor once a year for Christmas cheese. Well... I used
to until just now. From now on, I'll use the chopper attachment on my
Braun blender. I just never thought of it.

My Braun combination gizmo is no longer being made and I think it's a
darned shame. It's a mixer, stick blender, chopper. I love it. I use
the chopper feature a lot.

I have that one too, Barb, and I too love it. The capacity of my
chopper, though, is way too small for the OP's purpose. I use it for
herbs, garlic, ginger, that sort of thing. It sure is a good gizmo!

I think that's the one I have. It came with a chopper attachment [small
food processor that fits on the motor] and a whisk attachment. There may
be other components I can't find at the moment. The whisk and chopper
are pristine. But not for long. Thanks for the tip.

It's still being made, just perhaps not for the US. They are actually
getting bigger and stronger and more useful all the time.

I'm jealous! I love the unit. Mine's a Braun Multi-Mix M880. A pic
here, with a notation that it's no longer being sold.
http://tinyurl.com/y9a8vpw Drat. I use it as a mixer far more than
I use my big KA mixer.

I forgot to mention that it also came with dough hooks (pristine and
never used) as well as the tall tumbler-like container (that's the one I
use for making mayo). Mine's the M880 outfit, Leo.

You think it's too small? <shoulder shrug>. I can make chicken salad
for one or two in it.

Take good care of it, Tammasita * I broke something on the bottom of the
motor unit. It doesn't fit quite as securely atop the chopper
attachment as it should but it still works perfectly. When i started
looking around for parts, I got a clue that it's no longer being made.
MOF, I just went to braun.com US site and all that came up are shavers.
You have to look hard, imo, for mixer info.
Make a note that replacement parts (except for the motor unit!) are
available at theEssentials.com. (http://tinyurl.com/y94k8se)

I wouldn't bother to use one for tuna or chicken salad ( I like the
old manual method) - but I do use my mini processor for chopping
nuts, pureeing canned tomatoes, making bread crumbs, chopping onion,
garlic, making tahini, bean dip and many other things. I wash it
prob. one or twice a day.

I have the Sunbeam Oskar - been using it for almost 20 years - but I
don't think it's made any longer.

I don't trust anything my Cuisinart after I got that disaster waffle
iron.

Tammy,
I really like this machine and with almost 300+ reviews with a 4.5
our of 5 star rating, it seems like a winner. I am going to go and see
if I can get an even better deal on Ebay!
Also, thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions. I really
appreciate it.

Ciao,

I'm wondering if we have the same thing? I'll dig it out and take a
pic. I'm doubtful that mine could make the above for two, maybe for one.

Ohhhh yeah, that one is much larger than mine! I can probably only chop
3 maybe 4 cloves of garlic in mine. I bought the whole schmear only for
the hand unit, the other was an extra I didn't think I'd ever use. But
it's wonderful for chopping a whole buncha herbs; and if I'm making
garlic or ginger paste for curries, it's nice for that as well. I have
pretty bad tendonitis in my dominant hand, and as much as I love "knife
work" (oh that sounds bad....), I just can't do it like I used to. If I
*do* overuse my wrist, a $70 trip to the acupuncture dude fixes it up
nicely. For a spell, anyway. But obviously, I can't afford a few trips
a week to repair my over-chopping/slicing! :-/

Same one I have. I use the wand blender or the chopper several times
a week. Thanks for the url for replacement parts (don't need anything
right now but it's good to have). -aem

My favorite, is the Hamilton Beach mini-chopper, it holds 3 cups.
Yesterday I used it to make bread crumbs, mince garlic and chop an
onion, this morning I used it to chop celery. Easy to use, easy to
clean, I love it. This was a Christmas gift and I did not think I would
have a use for it. I was wrong, I just love it.

I have a Cuisinart and a KitchenAid that I hardly ever use.
