Thread: Fie on you Costco!

    Default Fie on you Costco!

We've been buying the single serve cups of hummus there for several years.
I can't remember what the brand was but when we first bought it, it was a
mixed pack. Half garlic and half regular. Daughter and I don't like the
garlic kind but husband did. So it was fine. Then husband moved away and
at the same time they started selling that same kind but only the regular.
    Great!

Then they switched to some other brand that was even better. Loved the
    stuff!

But now? Sabra. Eek! I couldn't even finish one cup tonight. What's with
that stuff? Is it the soybean oil giving it the off flavor? Soybean oil is
the reason I hadn't bought any in the past. Because I don't think it
belongs in there. I only bought it because husband was complaining that
there was no hummus. He must have had it before because he called it crap
    and refused to eat it.

My mom made hummus from scratch once and hers had this same off flavor. I
am pretty sure that she didn't put any soybean oil in hers though. Maybe
    bad tahini? I don't know.

    The Midnight Special strikes again.

What makes you think we want to hear about yet another food item you
    don't like?

It's the same thump-thump-thump of The Big Wheel(tm) with the flat

If you think you got it bad, Costco aims to completely change the way
hearing aids are sold. Instead of being a medical device, they're
selling aids like barrels of pretzels or printers. I expect the average
prices of hearing aids to drop to at least half what they are now. They
    will change the industry.

that would be a very good thing. Hearing aids are a racket. No need for
    it to be so.

Hearing loss is a fairly common problem with most folks. The majority of
people will do nothing due to the high cost of the aids. It will be a
    good thing.

Their vision service always comes out on top in any quality comparison,
why wouldn't they do a fine job with hearing aids?

If our hummus is not home made, Sabra is our go-to brand. We love it,
especially the garlic roasted pine nut versions.

Not according to David Lebovitz. He went to Israel this summer and
wrote quite a few posts from there about the food. One post was on
hummus... He mentioned that the most common "brand" there was
    extremely good...
Somewhere in the post (trying to find it now) it came up that it was
marketed here under the Sabra name.

They do a fine job with hearing aids, at least in Winston Salem, NC.
The man who runs it is not an audiologist but he is licensed to test
hearing and fit hearing aids. I had my hearing tested at the ENT
doctor's office and took the report to Costco. The aids we set to my
hearing ranges. I have had mine now for 3.5 years and any time I have
had a problem or question it has been taken care of promptly.

I did not buy cheap aids but Costco does have a range of prices. And
their optical shop is really great too. The prices are also very
good. When we first moved to the area and I got a new prescription I
priced the glasses in the doctor's shop. I got my frames and glasses
at Costco for about what the doctor's location charged for the frames.
And any time I need the glasses adjusted, like when I fell and the
glasses took the fall, we took them over and got them fixed as good as
    new.

As you can tell we are very happy with Costco.

IMO, Sabra tastes delicious. I make hummus when we want it, but my
friend Susan bought Sabra, we had it several times and loved it. We had
the "Garden" hummus and the "Roasted Red Pepper" hummus.

Sabra is just fine. It the only brand I've ever bought there and is
super creamy. Their little pile of token pine nuts or tomatoes on top
is kinda hoaky but it's just fine.

There was some legal/ethical controversy surrounding Sabra and
possibly another hummus maker, but I can't recall what it was. But as
    hummus goes, it's just fine.

If Julie complains about it, you're pretty much guaranteed that it
gets higher marks than she would have you believe.
