Does caffeine affect you? How much?
My brother cracks me up. A single cup of coffee is enough to get him talking 20mph
and get his hands trembling just a little and his heart races. A second cup and his
blood pressure will rise. He also would have trouble trying to fall asleep.
Me, I've never had anything like that. I drink 4 shot iced lattes with no shaking,
trembling, heart racing. It doesn't wake me up (no more than anything else, like
water or whatnot), and it certainly doesn't keep me up. The only problem I've ever
had is headaches in high school when I stopped drinking 4-6 cans of diet pepsi every
day. My doctor at the time said it was caffeine withdrawal.
Where and how does it have an effect on you? Do you drink "energy" drinks? Do they
cause more/less an effect than coffee or tea?

Interesting question. I'm pretty much immune to caffeine, at least in
coffee / cola levels. A cup of coffee at night does a good job relaxing
me for a good night's sleep. At my peak I probably drank about 24 cups
(8oz cups, i.e. a smaller number of larger mugs worth) of coffee a day.
These days it's two cups every morning and a few cans of diet Dr. Pepper
during the day typically. I did an experiment once and avoided all
caffeine for a year, and found it made no difference at all. I started
drinking coffee at about 5, and stopped using sugar at about 5.5, so I
guess it's just the years of conditioning.

I like caffeine..a LOT. But I've noticed as I am getting older <gasp!>
it seems to affect me negatively more often than it ever did before.
Which really sucks when you work 13 hour PM shifts sometimes. I have to
watch when I take it in and when to avoid it based on my schedule.

I sometimes get headachy and lethargic if I go 2 days without any
coffee. One day is not a problem, I probably have enough caffeine
stored in my liver to keep me going that long. I can drink strong
coffee all day and into the night and it doesn't affect my sleep --
except every once in a while if I'm worrying about something and was
gonna have trouble falling asleep anyway.
I sometimes go through a whole pot of coffee all by myself in a day. If
I'm in a meeting and my large cup of coffee is starting to get cold,
I'll chug it for effect. :-) I think I've built up a tolerance to it.
BTW, my blood pressure is fine and my pulse is actually on the slow side.
I've never tried "energy drinks". I sometimes drink tea on the weekends
instead of coffee. Tea doesn't affect me at all except to give me
enough caffeine to keep the headaches away if I want to withdraw from
coffee for a while.
So, yeah I'm hooked on caffeine, but like most adults I self-regulate it
pretty well.

I don't get any kind of symptoms but even one pepsi at lunch will keep me
awake until 3 or 4 in the morning. Needless to say I don't consume any
caffeine any more. I'm cranky enough when I get a full night's sleep. :-)

What a great question! I drink a large cup (according to my coffee pot,
about 3.5 cups)
in the morning (or whenever I get up) and sometimes want more. But if I make
another
cup, I can't get more than half of it down. I start to feel "icky," kind of
jangled and
then will crash. I'm very caffeine sensitve. I don't drink caffeine except
that coffee.
(If I get fast food I will have a small diet coke or tea, but that might be
four times
a month at the most.)
When I was in college I substituted caffeine for sleep and food and
everything in the
world. I sucked it down and smoked 2 packs to boot! But that has been years
ago.

If I drink caffeine, my heart races, my hands shake and within about 20
minutes I get gut-wrenching intestinal pains and you'd better find me a
bathroom ASAP!

Energy drinks make me sick -- they're _so_ sweet! I don't like them.
Two coffees one after the other will have the edges of the world a bit
_too_ sharp. A third right after that will make me all heart-racy and
hand-shaky.
Caffeine doesn't affect my sleep, though.

If I don't have at least one cup of tea or coffee by about 4pm, I get
massive tension headaches that usually last 1-2 days, that nothing will make
go away
otherwise, I can have tea. coffee, whatever right up until bedtime with no
wakefulness
I once drank the equivalent of about 7 short blacks (it had been made into a
coffee granita) in a row, and ended up with intestinal cramps, nausea,
dizziness, the shakes, etc etc...never did THAT again! :-)

I drink the better part of a pot of half-caff and maybe a couple of cups of
full-leaded during the day. I likes my coffee! Also lots of iced tea
and/or coffee this time of year. Used to be I couldn't drink caffeinated
beverages after about 4pm. No mas. I've got a glass of iced coffee right
next to me at the moment, and it's about 1.5 hours before I hit the sack.
If I drink "too much" (and I never really know how much that is until it
hits me), I feel slightly nauseated but bounce back fairly quickly. I don't
think I've ever noticed my hands trembling from over-caffeination, nor any
change in speech pattern.

A 4-shot espresso drink will make me a little edgy. More than one and I
definitely feel nervous. More than that and even more nervous. That's
about the only problem...no sleepless nights, no headaches, etc.
If I drink regular coffee at normal strength, no symptoms at all.
I have begun ordering caffeine-free espresso drinks. :-(
