I wonder if my cousin in Pasco, WA will go help out? He's been a
firefighter for 35 years. He always volunteers to go help where there are
wildfires. Good luck to you folks in CA!

Same ol' same ol'...... especially at this time of year.
Give it another week or so and Aussie Firefighters will be heading over
there to help out.

Due to the "santana winds" winds which come at the same time every
year.

Looks like Sylmar is a hot spot right now.

Thanks for the concern although I moved to the central coast about a year
ago # 4 daughter + Husband + 3 grandkids still live in the house.
The house and all are fine.
The fire in Sylmar is south of Newhall and the wind is blowing to the south
towards the San Fernando Valley. I spoke to them earlier and they said "If
the wind shifts get the extra bedrooms ready".
I have the laptop hooked to the live feed lout of LA and piped into the TV
so we can monitor the situation.
Regards to all & thanks

Mimi if she still lives there was about 10 blocks from my house in Santa
Clarita.
No problems in that neighborhood.

Couldn't believe Anaheim Hills was catching it, too. My office is in
Santa Ana and I had stopped in for a while yesterday. There was a
*huge* cloud of smoke just north of us and you could smell the smoke
from my building.

What is tragic is the random SPOT fires. No rhyme or reason.
I feel so bad for those people.
You come home and your house is destroyed and all your neighbors are OK.
I'm sure some people look up to the sky and say WHY ME LORD?

Re: California Wildfires
I grew up in Granada Hills and my mom still lives in the house that
she and my dad bought 51 years ago. She was given notice to evacuate
but didn't go. She doesn't drive much anymore and made arrangements
to scoot out with a neighbor but they decided to stay. Apparently it
was unpleasant but bearable. Here is a snippet of her email to me
today.
----
The black ash permeated everything...I swept off the patio a couple of
times and gave up. I’ve got black ash everywhere....it accumulates
wherever there is a hose or plant....it will take several rains to
clean up the landscape.... I feel very grateful to be complaining
about ash!!!
-----
I’m not crazy about her decision to stay because right behind our
house is a creek lined with eucalyptus trees (the creek is between the
fire and mom's house) and with the wind blowing embers in her
direction I shudder to think how quickly things could go south.
It sucks being so far away.

That is scary! I hope you can talk some sense into her
in the event there is a next time.

That's for sure. I imagine she could hire a powerwasher to
clean up.

I just heard that Mimi's area is in danger..she has things together
and ready to run. Those of you that remember her, please pray for
her...the fires have gotten extremely close to her now. She has some
things packed up and is ready to leave, if need be.
Even if you don't remember Mimi Hiller, still pray for her.

Small world!! I used to stay with a mate of mine in Granada Hills.
Was at his place during the Northbridge earthquake in '94.
Used to do runs on my motorbike from there down to Venice Beach to grab
supplies to take back.
IIRC his place is on the southern side of 118, somewhere between Balboa
and Reseda..... on Mission Blvd (I think!!)

Hmmmmmmmm, not good have those damn eucalypt trees close to a house.
They're full of oil.

Here's hoping everything goes OK for her.

Was that during the time you were squandering your army super on
trying to become a movies star?
BTW, give my regards to Ruth, now that she is a member of our large
fraternity.
I was once an aged care personal care attendant (PCA) myself before
becoming a Nurse.
Believe me, it is back-breaking work, working as a PCA in a nursing
home.
And you are so fortunate to have someone who works so hard for you so
you can stay at home and indulge your cooking hobby.
When you're a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a
life will touch yours.

Oh I forgot, it's Ruth's day off today isn't it? Hope she is well
rested before joining the fray tomorrow. Also please post a delicious
photo of the meals you have cooked in the last couple of days to
recompense her for her slaving away so you don't have to work.

I can talk but she has a mind of her own! Fortunatly my son-in-law

to look at the fire up close. Ugh!
