Default Bryan: Frick's ham in STL $1.39/lb?

    Bryan,

The stl.general newsgroup is dead, so as you're a sharp eye for great
deals, do you know which STL store has Frick's butt end hams on sale
for $1.39/lb? I saw an ad in my client's newspaper, but neglected to
    save the ad!

    Thanks!

Thanks man! Yeah, I scored 2 butt hams at Dierberg's this afternoon,
on the way home from my client's. I swore it was the Dierberg's ad I
saw, but when we were at Dierberg's Mon AM, their Frick hams were not
marked on sale yet, I guess, even though the ad said so.

I was just putting together my shopping list for tomorrow and was looking
through the local (STL) ads; neither Schnuck's nor Dierberg's had Frick's
ham listed in their ads this week. Shop n' Save had Frick's shank end hams
listed as a special at $1.17/lbs. Shop 'n Save often has flyers for
in-store specials for individual stores, in addition to the regional ads.
You might want to check online
(http://www.shopnsave.com/sns-webapp/ads/ads.do) to see if there is a
    butt-end special near you.

I know Dierberg's newspaper ad that they had taped up in their store
didn't show their Frick's hams on sale either. But they had 'em. And I
KNOW I saw an ad ijn my client's newspaper Monday. It was at thew
Dierberg's on Lemay Ferry that I got my 2 butt end Frick hams, $1.39/
    lb.

And this AFTER I saw Food Inc! I SUCK! :-( Oh well, I'm poor, what are
    ya gonna do, yano?

The Smithfield brand wet cured/city hams are always $1.39/lb at HEB
($1.29 for shank end). And it's the best ham out there that I've
    tried.

These were the Smithfield hams at HEB dear. They were on sale.
    Both Butt and Shank portions.

And I agree, they are ALways good!

The meat cutters will also slice them for me if I ask nicely. For free.
:-) I have them cut into steaks and save the last 6" or so for ham
stock. The cutters understand exactly what I want and why. :-)

Smithfield is one of the 4 or 5 huge corporations that control all
pork production in the U.S. I'd not be so proud of throwing around the
name Smithfield, after seeing Food Inc!

Schucks has been having some inexpensive bone-in ham lately. I don't
recall the brand, although I *think* it was Cook's rather than Frick's.
I noted that they were "water added" rather than "natural juice" hams.

I don't recall any from the ads this week, but I might not have
    noticed.

I've been buying "Cook's" hams, and I have about 1/2 of my last one
sliced up and packed in approx. 1lb foil packs in my freezer. They are
not the best hams in the world, but they will do for the price.

If I had lots of $$ I'd buy hams directly from small smokehouses, or
better yet smoke my own. But I'm relatively poor, so...

I just looked at the Dierbergs ad online, and it does have Frick's ham.

    Frick Bone-In
    Shank Portion
    Ham . . . . . . $1.29lb.
    Butt Portion . . . . . . $1.39lb.

I didn't notice it the first time I read it. But I'm not big ham eater.

This is why I'm glad I killfiled, John. You put one fact into their
head and they turn into an annoying Cliff Claven.

He'd be traumatized to learn that the majority of the Beef industry
is controlled by only 3 corporations.

(And BTW; There are hundreds of independent beef and pork producers,
    so spare us your bull****)

I made mahi mahi for lunch 4oz/$1 at Schnuck's. Regular salted,
peppered and dredged in cornmeal, fried in peanut oil with lemon to
squeeze on. The mahi mahi is skin-on. A nice change from tilapia.
