Default Which are the best POPCORN in USA?

    Hello everyone!!

    I'm from Spain.
I've a special friend and it's his birthday in some weeks.
He is a popcorn lover. A freak popcorn.

We have thought a few gifts for him, and one of them, it's the typical
popcorns in USA, that we see here in Spain in the films.

We have found "Jiffy Pop". But
we don't know any brand more.
[b:fbd0552869]Could someone tell us which is the best or the most
    tipycal popcorn in USA??[/b:fbd0552869]

For this kind of "item", it's most easy for us buy it in
    eBay.
But if someone knows a web for buying it from Spain-Europe, please
    tell me!!

    Thanks in advance for anything!!
    Regards from Spain!

PD: please, excuse my writing wrongs, and if i'm not very polite.

I like air poppers. We have a "Presto PopCornNowPlus", but it
is a really old model. Does Presto still make air poppers? Anyone?

I think the person was looking for popcorn, not poppers. Try Orville
    Redenbacher.

Your English is much better than my Spanish!

I like Act II for the microwave - the real butter flavor one - if
you're going to have butter flavor, it might as well be the real
thing. ;-) It's for a microwave. Or were you looking for regular
popcorn for a real popcorn popper?

If you want real popcorn kernels to pop in a pot on top the stove,
then there are lots of brands out there, many of them local to a
certain area here in the U.S. These, you can freeze, so there are
    always fresh kernels to pop.

And, yes, Presto still has a popper - at Amazon.

Are you sure you can't buy it in Spain? I can buy it at my Coop supermarket
and the quality is fine. It's sold with the peanuts and other snack foods.
    Otherwise, Redenbacher is fine, too.

Pop Secret, "Homestyle" variety. For the microwave. It's not
loaded down with a bunch of strong artificial flavorings.

I believe the OP is looking for popcorn not the popper.

We used to have one of those air poppers and it died. I couldn't find a
replacement at the time so I bought a microwave popper (basically a bowl
with a loose fitting lid) and realized that the little bit of aromatics
that are in corn get totally dispersed by the air popper and that makes
    it totally flavorless.

Don't know what happened to my response, so sorry for the duplicate:

I like Act II the best - the kind with no pretense of being healthy or
low salt or no butter - if you're going to have popcorn, you might as
well have real butter and salt the way you like it. It's for a
microwave, which is what I assume you are looking for.

And, yes, Amazon also has Presto poppers.

I just buy the Herr's already popped in a bag. They get out all the
    unpopped kernels.

    http://alturl.com/wbyd

    * Cheese
    * Hot Cheese
    * Light
    * Original
    * White Cheddar

I've broken two teeth on theater popcorn biting into kernels, so I don't
    pop my own anymore.

Whatever you find, don't buy the microwavable popcorn in a bags, unless
you can microwave them outside!!! They stunk up my house the couple times
    I tried.

    Gook luck,

Orville Redenbacher brand is one of the most popular and, IMO, one of the
best popcorns on the market in the US. I did a quick check on eBay and
found Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn readily available; I checked
only the first 20 of over 200 items, perhaps the non-microwave variety is
    also available on eBay.
    http://tinyurl.com/orville-on-ebay

In addition to the popcorn, there were any number of related promotional
items. At one time, Orville Redenbacher (the person) did commercials for
the popcorn and was popular for his nerdy looks and "corny" humor. A
YouTube search for Orville Redenbacher will no doubt turn old commercials
    your friend might enjoy.

It figures you'd have one of those semi-toothless grills with the
remainder grey and rotting away. Chicks really dig that, and the
breath that comes along with it.

    Sheldon,

    Great reminder!

They were caramel popcorn with peanuts and delicious! I loved 'em!

The prize was always planted at the bottom. We'd shake our boxes up and
down to maybe get a look at the prizes inside! I believe we did more harm
    than good.

Thanks for lighting up the past!

This is where I get my popcorn. The popper they sell is also a terrific

While one can argue ad nauseum about which is the "best", Orville
Redenbacher is unarguably the best selling brand and so could be
considered to be the "most typical". Some consider it to be the best as
    well.

Jiffy Pop is an interesting novelty but I wouldn't recommend it to
anybody except as a curiosity--it's OK if you don't burn it but the thin
pan makes it very easy to burn, especially on a gas burner. Probably
has Orville Redenbacher's popcorn in it these days--they're both owned
    by ConAgra.

If Karnaugh is anywhere near Rota and has decent interpersonal skills
she should be able to befriend a sailor who can get her some from the
base commissary. Otherwise I don't really know a good way to get it in
Spain other than ebay or maybe Amazon (note that Amazon USA will ship
many items to the EU--whether popcorn is one I have no idea).

Forget the microwaved crap, get some kernels and pop them in a heavy

Orville Redenbacher is distinctly better than any other brand of popcorn
I've ever found. It pops up bigger and better. (I'm talking about just plain
popcorn that you can pop in a pan or an air popper.)

    ************************************************

I'm in complete agreement with you here. Jolly Time is the best. Way, way
better than Orvil Redenbacher but much harder to find, I think. Personally,
I only buy the white popcorn -- never the yellow -- even if it means making
an out of the way trip in order to find it. Sure, yellow may puff up
bigger, but it doesn't have nearly as good of a flavor. People that don't
know the difference are really missing out. Jolly Time microwave white also
wins in the microwave category (tastes like homemade, not that artificial
crap), but if I'm going to take 3 minutes to make popcorn, I'd rather do it
on the stove than in the microwave. I've never found any other microwave
popcorn that was worth the stomach space. Well, Pop Secret Homestyle isn't
bad, but Act II is just plain repulsive.

    N.

You don't need a "popcorn popper" to pop corn. Forget all that microwave
crap with faux butter and chemicals, too. (It stinks to high heaven and who
the hell can identify the ingredients in it?)

Just a quarter-cup of regular popcorn kernels (Jolly Time or some similar
USA brand), a deep pan with a lid and just enough neutral oil to coat the
bottom of the pan (a few tablespoonfuls). Heat the pan until the oil just
starts to ripple a little. Toss in one corn kernel. If it pops, you know
you're ready to add the rest of the popping corn. Then you cover the pan
with the lid and shake, shake, shake it on the burner and laugh while the
corn pops! When it slows down to just a couple of pops (you kept shaking
it, didn't you?) take it off the burner.

At this point you may add (if you wish) melted butter or a drizzle of oil,
salt or seasoned salt, spices, grated hard cheese, or none of the above.
But if you do add anything, just put the lid back on the pan and shake it
until it's well mixed. Pour in a large serving bowl and enjoy!

    Jill
