BBQ is cooking low and slow using either direct or indirect fire and smoke.
Grilling is cooking high and fast over direct heat. Boiling is, uh, boiling.

Give me a break, you guys :-) I just completed commercial trucking school
and have yet to get back into the groove!!! In reality, I've been hired to
drive for one of the larger US trucking companies (Werner). I start on March
2.

Congrats, Dave! I know you posted that you were thinking about this
some time back. At the time, you were hoping for short haul rather than

I won't find out until the new driver orientation stuff. I'm sure I'll be
able to at least stick with a 7 state regional area. There's a good
possibility that I'll be able to snag a dedicated run...sticking with the
same route while being gone from home for no more than 3-4 days at a time.
I'll tell ya, in this economy I won't be overly aggressive and picky with a
new boss. At least for now :-)

Yup..."l0 - 4", Dave...

Do the big rigs even have CB's anymore? I hear that trucks are very high -
tech these daze, with satellite internet and all sortsa kewl stuff...

A lot of drivers still use CBs, but I find them to be nothing but an
annoying source of useless chatter. Cell phones have long replaced the
useful functions for which CBs were previously noted. And yer right about
the whiz-bang electronics....most of the big companies have realized the
electronics not only keep drivers happy by reducing downtime between loads,
but they also keep drivers in close contact with their families.

Yeah, it has been a good life. I figgered that trucking would be a good way
to spend my retirement :-) It isn't the easiest thing to do, but I love
the driving and the responsibility, plus the pay is pretty darn good. And it
keeps me out from under Jill's feet which drives her nuts :-)

Congratulations, Dave!! It's not an easy course and the exam, at least
in NJ where I took it, was really hard. Werner is supposed to be a good
company to work for, but I've been out of the industry since 1996, so I
can't say for sure.

Are they going to get you home often? Some of those big companies can
keep you out on the road for months and months.
