Ammoniac Brie
The smell seemed to be just in the rind -- does that sound right? The
oozing inside was delicious.

If you peel it before you eat it, you're missing at least half the
goodness.

What brand was it?
It's not unheard of - it was just wrapped tightly and needs to
breathe.

There's same bad brie mold surfaces out there. I don't know what they
use on some of them but some of they can be obnoxiously fluffy and
stryofoam-like. I'd rather eat limber with it's rind.

No idea why, but it's not right.

OMG yes.... unless you have defective brie like he has. I live in a
big city in California and I can get decent brie in any store that
sells cheese. I would have said "on the West Coast" except I had an
experience where I couldn't find a brie other than one that was worse
than awful when I tried just finding an ordinary brie in Corvallis,
Oregon only a few years ago.

Yep, ammonia, no problem.
Good brie probably.
