C'mon up to Boston's Scooper Bowl in June: It's a fund-raiser, and for your
contribution you get all the quality ice cream you can keep down. It's
served in small cups at each booth, but there's no limit to how many you can
have.
Participants include Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Breyers, Brigham's Ice
Cream, Cold Stone Creamery, Edy's Grand ice Cream, Élan Frozen Yogurt,
Garelick Farms, Gifford's, Häagen-Dazs and HP Hood, and there are usually
40-some flavors.
Took the 7- and 11-year-old grands last year. Quel experience!

I'm surprised they don't limit it to ONE per person! Are you tellin' me,
swertz, that you can eat 10 scoops of ice cream in one sitting?
That thing you sit on must be purty big then!
TammyM, MIGHT be able to eat 3 scoops, 4 in you make me

Depends on the overun value... typical premium ice cream is 25-35 pct
air... generic stupidmarket ice creams contain nerly 50 pct air,
texture is like eating marshmallow. And depends on fat content too,
the lower the fat content the more folks can eat before feeling full.
And also at what temperature, the colder the greater volume that is
maintained... ice cream kept in typical home freezers is not as cold
as commercial freezers, therefore as it's scooped at home it tends to
collapse, substantially, you'll pack a lot more into a small volume
vessel.... I use a particular 12 ounce mug at home, I can cram about a
third of a half gallon container into that mug.... that's why when you
buy hand packed from an ice cream parlor it costs so much more. I
figure sqwertz a one quart per sitting type.

That is my favorite as well; I was sorry to see our local B-R close when the
building was razed for new construction. Ben & Jerry's and Cold Stone
Creamery have opened near the old B-R location, but that just won't do.
Now, I have to drive quite a distance to find what I want ---------

Maximum overrun is about 100% (but it's done by weight). And you
can bet that a lot of the cheap-assed brands have nearly that much.
Baskin-Robbins was recently fined a half-million $ in California for
shorting their pints by almost 25%. It'd be interesting to see if
increased overrun to make up the difference.

I'm amazed at how few B&Rs we have here in the Phoenix, for being such a
hot climate. In the Cleveland area we seemed to have dozens of them.
We do have a chain here called Cold Stone Creamery which does mix-ins if
you like, or you can have the plain ice cream, which is very good quality,
though not quite as many flavors at B&R.
