Thread: Do Women make better cooks???

I believe one of the reasons given for most top chefs being men is that they can more easily lift the heavy pots. I don't know if that's true or not, I'm sure plenty of women could lift them too.

Part of being a better cook is having more knowledge than an average cook. Both men and women can be equals in the kitchen if they take the time to learn the nuances of cooking, and the interaction of various ingredients. This comes with time and practice more than just study. Once the synergies of ingredients are understood, you can take relatively mundane dishes and turn them into dishes that people will say "WOW" to. It doesn't happen overnight, so don't try to fool yourself in that regard, but it's something that can be achieved by men and women alike.

Actually my teenage chores went along the lines of chopping wood, tilling the 2 acre garden, tending the garden, harvesting, canning, feeding the chickens and steer, butchering both, making bread, cooking casseroles and soups, providing fresh veggies and making salads, barbequing the steaks and chicken, and then do the dishes. chores knew no gender bounds in my family, I just got stuck with most of them because I would actually do them.

I think it is about equal. You just find more women in the home kitchen than the professional. Women sometimes don't last very long in the professional field because it takes up a lot of time and can be very stressful. I have found there to be a lot of testosterone in most restaurant kitchens. Its a hard life style to balance when you have a family to take care of.
That being said no one makes a better meatloaf than my grandmother
I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are equally talented, but are more often than not found in different environments.

I agree with you all. Gender is not an option. Most good chief are men "Iron Chief". But some are women and it depends on how you exposed yourself in the kitchen.

I think there's no argument to start for us to know who cooks better between a men and women. As long as it met my taste buds there'll be no problem with me. I say any of the two.

I know some women that are pretty horrible cooks! However, if there is a difference in cooking quality, I would say it comes more from a sense of responsibility than ability. Women are taught by society that cooking is their job, so they tend to try harder at it.

For me, it's equal. Gender has nothing to do with cooking. It requires skills, experience and knowledge.

I couldnt place a generalisation on gender attributes to cooking coz sometimes i make really good dishes and sometimes i think, aww this tasted better last week...that make sense? besides my partner cooks good when he puts his mind to it so there aint a gender advantage its the state of mind of the person....surley?

I think that it mainly depends on person's abilities and experience. I think that Men and Women are equal in terms of cooking!

Hi Buddies.........I think women definitely cook better than men because they are to much involved in cooking and their task is to cook food and that is why they become expert and cook very well . So there is no doubt that women are better in cooking different foods .

Not all women are housewives. There are many women who are working and also cooks very well. They do all the works which generally a man does, but still manages to cook good. I think women have certain specific genes which gives them the information on what to be cooked and how can it be more tasty. They know how much spices to be added to specific dishes. I think the women are masters in cooking and men can never beat them.

I think men can cook better. ya its true that men donot always cook means on daily basis but when ever they cook, that is much better than women.
Specially man can cook chicken better then woman.

Though... most chefs are women...so that's a telling fact!

We like our mothers or sisters cooking because they add love in the recipe. Simple.
