    Smile Protein

Protein-containing foods provide us with amino acids (the body's building blocks).
These are essential for growth, the replacement of body tissues & the production of hormones & enzymes.

Protein-containing foods are not normally used as an energy source.
They are used for growth & repair.

The main protein-containing foods are meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, nuts & pulses (i.e. peas, lentils & beans including soya & its products).

About 15% of our total energy intake should come from protein-containing foods.

Protein is what our muscles use for growth & repair.
For example.. When we lift weights in the gym, we streach our muscles, protein help repair these muscles & helps them grow.
