Middle Eastern Muhammara Recipe Question

I am looking for a good recipe for Muhammara. I have found many online that seem to work pretty well except for one ingredient that I have never been able to get right. The chili paste is hard to find the right one. Everything I have tried comes out too spicy. Any suggestions?

I've never heard of muhammara. What's it made of? What does it taste like? I'm always up for exotic new dishes, but other than the greek Mousaka, I've never tried anything too exotic.
