Default TN: 2 of my favorite producers (Chevillon and Ridge)

No wine Wednesday, as I trekked to Long Island for a speech. But
Thursday night we had "Pir Vilayat's dinner" (steamed salmon with
chard and onions) and barley, with the 2005 Chevillon Bourgogne. I
like Pinot and salmon, but for this dish I usually prefer white, but
the red was handy! Really nice showing, I was afraid it would be
closed, but steady and straightforward red cherry fruit, strong earthy
elements, with some air some smoke and cocoa. Good length, vivid but
balanced acids, fun. Doesn't hold up well overnight, but on night 1
more open than I expected, and a B+

Tonight Betsy made an old fave for Dave and I, steak over a salad of
watercress and parsley with a horseradish/caper/mustard dressing, plus
a side of carrots and parsnips with Indian spices. I usually let wine
sit for a couple weeks after shipping, but NJ is near, so I went with
a bottle of 2006 Ridge Lytton Springs that I got for $18.xx (w/free
shipping) from Cinderella recently. OK, not biggest most concentrated
Lytton, but clean blackberry meets black raspberry fruit, a hint of
vanilla, oregano/herb notes. Underbrush, earth, but mostly about berry
fruit. Some tannins. Good, not great. B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an
excellent*wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I
wouldn't*drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I
offer no*promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of
consistency.**

Cinderella?? Not too surprising about the LS -- it's still such a young
wine and in recent years they haven't been showing well young (with age,
well we'll see...) Nice to hear about the Chevillon, too.

Dale, I very rarely reply to your posts, mostly because I fear my
green envy of your wine/food combinations will show, but I have to, this
time. Please note that it should be "for Dave and /me/". I've noticed

But for $18 (which is €12, but even if it was €18) it sounds so nice. We
have an importer for Ridge in Spain, but I do not think I have found
Lytton Springs for less than €30.

Dale's price is exceptional even for the USA. Both Lytton Springs and
Geyserville typically retail for $35 or more these days, so your €30
doesn't sound unreasonable for an imported wine.

Noted, I'll try and keep an eye on myself. Though I don't think it's
anywhere near my only grammatical error (look, starting a sentence
with "though"!) I did to be slapdash and colloquial.
The embarrassing thing is at least once a week I notice where I put
the wrong word somewhere (probably because I tend to be
multitasker).
And (damn!) I can scarcely claim much credit for the Poe, it was more
word substitution than actual ability to mimic. Good memory!

Cinderella is Wine Library's new woot-style outlet. I think I'll start
a new thread about those type places.

So buying from Wine Library eh? The Cinderella wines are really a great
deal.

That's why editors get paid the big bucks!

Meanwhile, in fly-over country, I explored Cinderella and signed up.
Will now wait for the outrageous bargains like $17 Ridge LS...
