With last night's light dinner of butternut squash soup and bread, Jean
asked for a hearty red wine, so I came back from the cellar with:
2004 Ch. St. Martin de la Garrigue "Bronzinelle" Coteaux de Languedoc
nose: brambly blackberry fruit verging on blackberry liqueur, a touch of
earthiness
palate: medium-full body, smooth tannins, balanced acidity
This wine, brought in by Kermit Lynch, was on my radar screen from an
earlier recommendation here by Mike Tommasi. It came across as quite
young, with no trace of wood (which may be result of some age on it) and
the Carignan character, insofar as I understand what that is, was quite
prominent. Quite delicious and food-friendly, but better suited I am
sure for a hunk of red meat. Tonight's lamb dinner may put that idea to
the test with the remaining half bottle.
