I agree completely. And I'm Italian...
"And what diversity. Here is a country whose wine styles range from
Muscadet to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from Beaujolais Nouveau to Château
d'Yquem and from every imaginable point in between"
Some of the points in between deserve to be cardinal points of the
variety map: Vin Jaune for example, but also Loire chenins and
sauvignons, Alsace gewurz. I think that the remarkable variety of wines
extends beyond France, if not by much... Mosel Rieslings, Tokaj, Jerez,
Rust.
I love Italian wines, but there is a certain uniformity compared to the
explosive variety in France, even Switzerland goes to greater extremes.
